Job summary

Darling Ingredients Inc. is seeking an Environment Manager to ensure permit compliance, oversee wastewater treatment, and manage boiler operations for our North Carolina facility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Wastewater Operator Certification (GA) or ability to obtain certification.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental systems, equipment, and operating procedures.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures OSHA safety policies are followed at all times.
  • Supervises production operators in boiler operations, wastewater treatment, and air treatment equipment.
  • Leads and trains staff; implements SOPs for environmental and utility systems.
  • Develops and implements CIP schedules for scrubbers and equipment, balancing production needs.
  • Collects and analyzes daily environmental data; makes operating recommendations.
  • Prepares state and federal environmental permit submittals for General Manager.
  • Ensures facility adheres to company environmental policies.
  • Mentors staff; works in a fast-paced environment; may work off-shift as needed.
  • Forecasts needs, sources through bids, maintains spare parts inventory.
  • Provides technical guidance on wastewater lagoons, scrubbers, and land application systems.

The Environment Manageris responsible for ensuring the location meets its environmental permit compliance responsibilities, manages the plant’s pollution control scrubber and waste water operations, ensures boiler operations are compliant with state and company policy, and improves the facility’s environmental performance within the community. Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Maintains staff and location in compliance with all Company, State or Federal OSHA Safety Policies and Practices.
  • Provides supervision to production operators in reference to Safe Boiler operations, Wastewater treatment, and Air Treatment equipment.
  • Leads, trains, and implements Standard Operating Procedures for plant environmental and utility systems, including air pollution control, steam generation, wastewater pretreatment, lagoon operations, and Land Application System.
  • Develops, assigns, and implements CIP schedules of scrubbers and associated equipment taking production activities into account.
  • Collects and analyzes daily environmental data to make operating recommendations to plant management to ensure performance of pollution control and treatment equipment.
  • Prepares state and federal environmentalpermitrelated submittals for General Manager.
  • Ensures facility is operating withing the Company’s environmental policies.
  • Comfortable and competent working and leading staff in a fast paced environment.
  • Working off shift (night, weekend, or holiday) hours for extended periods as plant production needed dictates.
  • Forecasts needs, sources through competitive bids, and maintains appropriate spare parts inventory.
  • Proficient and is able to provide or source technical guidance in waste water lagoons, VOC scrubbers, and land application system. (i.e. recognizing and troubleshooting lagoon operations, Air treatment condensers and scrubbers (Water Shell/ Tube and Air/ Air, Packed Bed Scrubbers, Venturi’s and RTO scrubbers))
  • Evaluates and decides using technical specifications provided on equipment data sheets to base performance decisions.
  • Responsible for training new personnel on Company safety procedures and safe operating standards in accordance with OSHA.
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Wastewater Operator Certification (GA) or ability to obtain required certification.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental systems, equipment, and operating procedures.
  • Proficiency with CMMS and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Prior rendering, agricultural, or industrial experience.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems and preventative/predictive maintenance practices.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and multiple projects or priorities.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Frequently exposed to high noise levels, strong odors, varying temperatures, electrical hazards, chemicals, and biohazardous conditions.
  • Requires prolonged sitting and movement throughout office/work locations, as well as occasional use of computers and office equipment.
  • Frequently requires sitting, walking, computer/equipment use, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing or balancing.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and identify potential workplace hazards.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs.
