Warehouse Yard Switcher – Job Overview

Responsible for safe, efficient movement, securement, and positioning of trailers within the yard and at dock doors, protecting employees, equipment, facilities, and product. Supports Transportation, Production, Warehouse, and Vertique operations.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

• Spot, move, and position empty and loaded trailers between docks and designated yard locations.
• Perform backing, blind‑side, and tight‑space maneuvers with minimal risk.
• Ensure trailers are aligned, secured, and dock‑ready prior to loading or unloading.
• Maintain orderly trailer placement to support efficient yard flow.
• Check dock status and obtain clear authorization before moving trailers.
• Do not move trailers when dock safety devices are missing, damaged, or engaged, or when trailer status is unclear.
• Operate yard switcher tractors safely per PBV policies and OSHA requirements.
• Conduct daily inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns.
• Maintain awareness of pedestrians and equipment traffic, exercising stop‑work authority when conditions are unsafe.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL Class A preferred.
• Minimum six (6) months of verifiable yard switching or tractor‑trailer experience.
• Basic computer and HMI skills.
• Ability to pass PBV Yard Switcher Training and Skills Test.
• Ability to climb, enter, and exit the yard switcher cab.
• Ability to see in poor outside conditions such as rain and low light.
• Ability to interface with warehouse and yard management software and technology.
• Willingness to work extended shifts as needed.
• Good record‑keeping, written and verbal communication skills.
