Job summary

Washoe County School District is seeking a Warehouse Worker/Driver I to receive, store, and distribute supplies and equipment across district sites. You will operate delivery routes, assist with inventory, and maintain safety in warehouses and vehicles.

The role requires one year of warehousing or delivery experience and a high school diploma; a Nevada CDL-B is preferred where applicable. This is a hands-on position with a focus on reliability and customer service.

Under supervision, receives, stores, and distributes supplies and equipment to schools and other locations throughout the District. Performs related work as required.

Exemplary Duties/Responsibilities
  • Inspect trucks and equipment on a regular basis; identify needed repairs and notify supervisor; maintain vehicles, equipment, warehouse and other assigned areas in a clean and safe condition.

When Assigned To Nutrition Services

  • Receives and stores perishable foods; checks shipments for accuracy against purchase orders and invoices; notify supervisor of discrepancies; convey shipments to storage area by hand, hand trucks, forklifts, or pallet jacks; make appropriate entries on delivery forms, stock records and other related documents.
  • Receives and fills food requests from stock; manually loads items for delivery; verifies load against supply request; operates a refrigerated truck to deliver prepared and refrigerated food items and products; ensures food is handled in the proper manner during the loading, transit, unloading, and storage processes; examines and removes spoiled or damaged food items.

When Assigned To The Materials Distribution Warehouse

  • Receives and stores general supplies, custodial supplies, and furniture; assists in various department relocations of furniture, equipment and instruments; checks shipments for accuracy against purchase orders, packing lists and Bill of Lading; notify supervisor of discrepancies; convey shipments to storage area by hand, hand trucks, forklifts, or pallet jacks; make appropriate entries on receiving and delivery forms, stock records and other related documents; and assist in taking periodic inventory, cycle counts, and spot audits of inventories.
  • Receives and fills supply requests from stock; manually loads items for delivery; verifies load against supply request; operates a truck to deliver products; ensures items are handled in the proper manner during the loading, transit, unloading, and storage processes; examines and removes damaged items; restocks picking locations and notates movement of overflow stock.
  • Assists in the relocation of district departments; analyze, coordinate, and implement each moving occurrence to ensure the safest and most efficient means is being used to transport items; moves items such as music, shop and athletic equipment, between district sites and business; handles secured material such as testing material; may assist in the evacuation of buildings during and after floods by loading and unloading district vehicles with property and equipment. Provide Customer Service to District schools, business and general public.

When Working In Teachers Warehouse

  • Communicates with vendors and general public; Prepare for End of Year Inventory and record inventory count sheets into a Spreadsheet for auditing purposes for Education Alliance. Evaluate potential donations with Supervisor for reuse value and allowable storage space, pick up donations, provide receipts for donations; record donation and shopper information into an Excel spreadsheet. Send out Thank you letters. Recognize hazardous materials and use safe handling practices, storing product in designated area.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and experience would be:

Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma.

Experience: One (1) year of responsible experience driving a delivery route; When Assigned to Nutrition Services: experience with refrigerated truck systems is also preferred.

Experience: One (1) year of general warehousing, stock, or inventory control experience; experience with driving forklifts is preferred.

Knowledge of: Reading, writing, and basic math; basic computer skills; state and local traffic laws and regulations, including defensive driving and emergency procedures; safe handling principles and practices, as would apply to assigned duties.

Skill at: Operating vehicles up to five (5) tons, with manual transmission and 2-speed axles in heavy traffic situations; using appropriate judgment in meeting unforeseen or bad weather conditions; ability to follow written and oral instructions; move / lift and carrying heavy or large objects up to 100 pounds and 50 pounds over head; performing strenuous physical work; work under adverse climate conditions; using computer operating systems such as EXCEL, WORD and OUTLOOK; moving, storing or displaying furniture or other equipment; able to follow verbal or written instructions; good communication skills; establish and maintain working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing assigned duties; maintain accurate inventory records; operate light auxiliary equipment, such as forklift and pallet jack; accurately pick orders for processing.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Nevada State Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with a driving record acceptable to the District.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting.
