Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Warehouse Utility Person, located at the Fremont Warehouse, 1101 N. Front Street, Fremont, OH 43420.

JOB SUMMARY

The Warehouse Utility Person must be capable of learning proper operation of all inbound and outbound equipment; scrolls, elevators, screens, etc. used in conveying and screening of sugar from Factory Production, within the Silo, and to all Packing Lines and Bulk Bay. Must keep the work area clean and assist in the maintenance of sugar equipment as needed. Work as a team with other shifts to ensure no interruptions in product delivery occur. Employees are responsible for the proper loading, unloading, and shipping of products and materials. Computer skills required to access inventories, reports, and orders. Employees must work with all production shifts as teams, to maintain product flow, satisfy customer requirements, and SQF objectives as well as perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Warehouse Utility is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient movement, storage, loading, unloading, and shipment of sugar and warehouse materials throughout the facility. This position operates and monitors sugar-handling equipment, supports production and packaging operations, maintains inventory accuracy, and ensures products are properly prepared and released for shipment.

The Warehouse Utility works closely with the Warehouse Supervisor, Foremen, Team Leaders, Production, Maintenance, Quality Control, Security, and other warehouse personnel to maintain continuous product flow and meet customer, food safety, and operational requirements.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Learn and safely operate all inbound and outbound sugar-handling equipment, including scrolls, elevators, screens, silos, bulk sugar bins, conveyors, and related equipment.
• Monitor and inspect silos, bins, elevators, scrolls, conveyors, and other equipment to ensure proper operation and promptly report issues or concerns.
• Operate reclaim scrolls to maintain proper silo levels and crater conditions.
• Maintain and monitor vacuum and dust collection systems.
• Work directly with Foremen and Team Leaders to ensure an adequate supply of sugar to packaging lines and the Bulk Bay.
• Work collaboratively with all production shifts to maintain product flow and minimize interruptions to operations.
• Perform production protection checks and complete required documentation.
• Follow all GMP, AIB, SQF, and Michigan Sugar Company policies and procedures.
• Obtain and submit appropriate product samples to the Quality Control Laboratory in accordance with company procedures.
• Take silo measurements as required.
• Perform minor maintenance and housekeeping duties as needed.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse and equipment areas.
• Communicate effectively with Warehouse personnel, Maintenance, Supervisors, and other departments regarding equipment problems, product concerns, or operational issues.

Shipping and Receiving

• Properly load, unload, transfer, and ship products and materials in accordance with company procedures.
• Inspect box trucks and other transportation equipment prior to loading and complete required shipping documentation, including bills of lading, certificates of analysis, and export documentation.
• Safely and efficiently operate transfer trucks and other material‑handling equipment.
• Verify that load numbers, order information, quantities, and other shipment details are accurate.
• Ensure loaders receive accurate product and loading instructions.
• Verify RFID tags and pallet labels are accurate and properly applied.
• Verify the correct product and quantity are loaded onto each truck and ensure positive product release prior to shipment.
• Provide load weights to Security personnel for final scale verification.
• Maintain accurate records of received shipments, including sugar, packing materials, consumables, starch, and other warehouse or factory supplies.
• Record and process sugar returned from customers or received from other locations.
• Receive and unload factory and warehouse supplies as needed.
• Pull wrapped pallets from conveyors and place them in designated storage areas.
• Transfer products between warehouses as required.
• Count and verify products and supplies and assist with organizing or repairing damaged product.

Customer and Transportation Relations

• Maintain professional and courteous relationships with truck drivers, dispatchers, railroad personnel, and other outside contractors.
• Verify order numbers and shipment information and provide clear directions and assistance to visitors and transportation personnel.
• Work with the Warehouse Manager to ensure load numbers and information received from haulers are accurate.

Safety, Physical, and Environmental Requirements

• Maintain a safe working environment and follow all applicable company safety policies and procedures.
• Must be able to safely navigate warehouse and silo areas from top to bottom, including climbing ladders and stairs when necessary and working without use of the passenger elevator.
• Must be able to bend, climb, reach, stand, walk, and perform other physical activities required to safely perform the job.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in varying weather conditions while wearing appropriate seasonal protective clothing and equipment.
• Must hold a valid forklift certification/license and maintain a safe driving record.
• Must be able to safely operate applicable warehouse and transfer equipment.

Computer and Administrative Requirements

• Must have basic computer skills and the ability to effectively use a keyboard.
• Use computer systems to access inventory information, reports, orders, and other required documentation.
• Complete required production, inventory, shipping, receiving, and safety records accurately and timely.

The Warehouse Utility is expected to work as part of a team and assist with maintaining efficient warehouse and production operations.
