Position Overview
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for leading and engaging employees at the Logistics Center to achieve productivity, quality, and safety goals. This role oversees a specific shift and focuses heavily on coaching, supporting, and developing the team to ensure efficient and consistent performance. The Warehouse Supervisor will also work closely with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives and operational best practices.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Engage and Inspire the Workforce
- Build strong relationships with employees through daily interaction and motivation.
- Lead daily shift meetings to align the team on priorities and expectations.
- Address employee concerns and resolve issues; escape when needed.
- Clearly communicate team goals, performance results, and updates.
- Lead and participate in site-wide activities, including social awareness initiatives and employee events.
- Facilitate monthly safety committee meetings and foster a safety-first culture.
- Lead and participate in site management meetings and employee roundtables.
- Foster positive employee relations and support efforts to maintain a union‑free workplace.
Drive Operational Excellence
- Understand and communicate shift, customer, and Logistics Center goals.
- Execute daily work plans, adjusting workflows as needed to meet targets.
- Apply CJ Logistics America's Labor Management Program, including regular performance observations.
- Support inventory control and quality assurance by participating in audits.
- Provide frontline input on staffing needs to leadership.
- Collaborate with leadership on supply management and maintenance scheduling.
Manage and Develop Employee Performance (Includes Safety, Quality, and Productivity)
- Observe, coach, and provide timely performance feedback.
- Track and communicate Forklift Operator productivity and quality metrics.
- Conduct regular safety observations and participate actively in safety initiatives.
- Oversee employee timekeeping and attendance, ensuring payroll compliance.
- Promote and implement operational best practices.
- Shadow Forklift Operators to understand process execution and identify improvement areas.
- Identify training and cross‑training needs, and deliver hands‑on training as needed.
- Perform process quality checks and manage related program activities.
Connect Employees to Customer Objectives
- Communicate customer‑specific requirements clearly and consistently.
- Review operational performance against customer expectations.
- Help team members understand their role in supporting broader customer goals and success.
Perform other related job duties as assigned or required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field is preferred – or equivalent relevant experience.
- 1-3 years of experience supervising others
- Proven leadership skills with strengths in organization, communication, and cross‑functional teamwork.
- Strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment – exhibiting passion for safety.
- Excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills with a high level of emotional intelligence.
- Foundational skillset in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
- Ability to adapt quickly, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a high-volume, fast‑paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to effectively engage with both frontline employees and leadership teams to positively influence culture and drive results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating or overseeing use of Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Prior experience utilizing Blue Yonder or Körber WMS systems.
- Understanding of warehouse operations with experience in a distribution and/or manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the physical ability to:
- Stand and/or walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours, depending on shift)
- Sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed
- Climb stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds at various heights including ground‑level and racking zones occasionally
- Reach with hands and arms overhead and below waist level
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally lift heavier items with or without assistance
- Use fine motor skills/manual dexterity to operate equipment, tools, or keyboards
- Frequently use hands and fingers to handle, grasp, or control objects
- See clearly at close range and at distance, with peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Hear and understand verbal instructions, alarms, and equipment signals in a noisy environment
- Sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer
- Speak and hear clearly in person, virtually, and over the phone
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid environment, with responsibilities carried out in both a warehouse setting and an office environment. In the warehouse, the employee is exposed to:
- Varying temperatures, including but not limited to refrigerated or non‑climate controlled areas
- Loud noise levels, such as machinery, forklifts, and conveyor systems
- Dust, odors, and airborne particles
- Concrete flooring and moving mechanical equipment
- Frequent exposure to powered industrial vehicles and warehouse traffic
The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel‑toed shoes, safety glasses, and high‑visibility vests.
In the office environment, the employee will use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers. The noise level in the office is typically quiet to moderate, and the area is climate controlled.
