Job summary

Scholastic in Pennsylvania is seeking a Warehouse Supervisor to lead hourly associates, streamline packing and loading operations, and ensure safety and efficiency across the warehouse.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with branch management, and ensure accurate data collection and reporting while maintaining high morale and productivity during peak periods.

Qualifications

• Minimum with supervisory exposure in a warehouse or distribution setting.
• Experience in distribution or manufacturing environments preferred.
• Proficient in MS Office, internet navigation, and email.
• Familiar with scanner systems and data entry.
• Strong interpersonal skills to lead and direct associates.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 300 lbs, climb ladders.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and hiring for warehouse staff during orientation and 90-day onboarding.
• Supervise and train warehouse personnel to maximize productivity and morale.
• Evaluate performance with management; conduct appraisals and set goals.
• Adhere to OSHA, DOT, EEOC regulations and safety standards.
• Investigate incidents and support safety meetings to reduce accidents.
• Schedule staff and maintain attendance; assist in labor hours tracking.
• Support production planning and manage Branch P&L with managers.
• May close out fairs and ensure proper labeling of book fairs and displays.
• Prepare daily packing schedules as needed.
• Oversee packing, stock replenishment, and loading per schematics.
• Assist with physical inventory counts, open houses, and warehouse sales.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of warehouse equipment and tools.
• Follow safe lifting and handling techniques; report unsafe conditions.
• Accurate data entry on labor data collection cards.
• If certified, operate forklifts during peak periods.
• Perform other duties as requested by Branch/Production Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• 1. Assist in the recruiting and hiring process for warehouse staff. Conduct orientation for newly hired associates, including mentoring, through 90-day orientation period.
• 2. Supervise, develop, and train all warehouse personnel and maintain peak level of associate morale and motivation within organization for maximum level of productivity and associate retention.
• 3. In conjunction with the Branch Manager, or Production Manager, evaluate & document warehouse associates’ job performances; conduct all warehouse performance appraisals; recommend salary changes; and set performance goals.
• 4. Adhere to local, State, and Federal regulations inclusive but not limited to OSHA, DOT, and EEOC.
• 5. Investigate job-related incidents (Workers’ Compensation) and file reports in conjunction with Branch Manager. Participate or direct monthly safety meetings to minimize accidents, incorporating a wellness attitude among all staff members.
• 6. Schedule staff and maintain attendance records. Assist in Labor Hours Tracking - Actual vs. Budget.
• 7. Assist Branch Manager, or Production Manager, in the use and execution of production planning system and management of Branch P&L’s.
• 8. May be responsible for closing out fairs, ensuring all cases, displays, and boxes are staged with the book fair properly labeled.
• 9. May prepare daily packing schedules.
• 10. May oversee Fair packing production or replenishment of stock from bulk to shelves as well as the unloading of trucks and cases.
• 11. May oversee packing and display of product in accordance with schematics, to ensure customer requests and needs are satisfied; including, but not limited to, matching loading procedures to warehouse/driver sheets.
• 12. May assist with physical inventory counts, open houses and warehouse sales.
• 13. Ensure that warehouse equipment/tools are properly utilized to increase productivity, efficiency, safety, and report any unsafe conditions/equipment or injury to Manager.
• 14. Use and monitor proper techniques for lifting, packing, handling heavy objects, climbing ladders, and pushing/pulling cases.
• 15. Fill Accurate Data on Labor Data Collection Cards.
• 16. May operate forklifts during peak business periods (If certified – must be at least 18 years of age).
• 17. Perform other duties as requested by Branch Manager and/or Production Manager.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED Certificate required, College Degree preferred.

• 2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory role.
• 3. Prior experience with a distribution or manufacturing organization preferred.
• 4. Ability to analyze, develop, initiate, and implement plans and strategies to achieve goals.
• 5. Strong computer skills; ability to navigate through the internet, MS Office, and email preferred.
• 6. Ability to utilize scanner systems effectively with minimal errors.
• 7. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and direct associates.
• 8. Ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines.
• 9. Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs., push/pull up to 300 lbs., climbs ladders without assistance. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
