Job summary

Veritiv Corporation seeks a Shipping & Receiving Supervisor to oversee department functions and associates, ensuring production standards and timely, safe movement of product. You will coordinate shipping schedules, manage inbound/outbound logistics, and maintain documentation across distribution centers and with external freight companies.

The role requires 1–3 years of supervisory experience, strong planning and communication skills, and the ability to work in a non-climate-controlled

  • Oversee receiving, verifying, and stocking inbound materials.
  • Coordinate shipment logistics with outside freight companies.
  • Maintain documentation of shipping and receiving functions.
  • Create purchase orders for vendors and expedite until receipt of services/goods.
  • Maintain warehouse record-keeping on raw materials and parts inventory.
  • Identify and resolve system issues and reporting requirements.

Job description

Job Purpose

Our Shipping & Receiving Supervisor will oversee the department functions and associates while maintaining production standards for receiving or shipping departments. This position will manage all daily issues and projects under the direction of the Operations Manager and will work with all Distribution Center Departments, Transportation, and Inventory Management to ensure the timely and safe movement of product.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate shipping schedules for production and properly plan for mixed product loads. Work with them to resolve questions regarding shipping schedules or product unavailable for shipment as scheduled.
  • Administer reconsignment of freight, refusals, problems with delivery, returned merchandise, etc. as necessary.
  • Oversee receiving, verifying, and stocking inbound materials.
  • Coordinate shipment logistics with outside freight companies.
  • Maintain documentation of the shipping and receiving function.
  • Create purchase orders for vendors (service vendors i.e. grinder, plater, etc.) and expediting until receipt of services/goods.
  • Maintain warehouse record-keeping on raw materials and parts inventory.
  • Supervise the maintenance of records of damaged or defective items and discrepancies in quantities and weights and records time date quantity source and destination of materials received or shipped.
  • Identify and resolve TMS and RDC systems issues and reporting requirements.
Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • The Warehouse Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of employees to ensure excellent customer is provided through orders that are pulled, packed, converted, shipped, loaded, and received accurately and free from visible damage or defect.
  • Experience operating a variety of material handling equipment (lifting platforms, forklift, pallet jack, hand trucks, etc.) required.
  • Regularly working in a non-climate-controlled warehouse where exposure to cold, heat, damp or humid conditions may occur.
  • Exposure to loud noise.
  • Exposure to dust, mechanical hazards, moving objects, and moving vehicles.
  • Ability to lift, twist and carry up 50 - 75 pounds, manipulate (push and pull) up to 160 pounds of product with material handling equipment and skids weighing up to 2,000 pounds utilizing pallet jack.
  • Walking/Standing - walk throughout the warehouse to complete customer orders. Stand when operating order picker or reach truck equipment and when operating cutter.
  • Sitting - sit only when driving sit-down material handling equipment.
  • Lifting - lift items weighing a few ounces up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Stooping - performed when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations. May bend at the waist.
  • Kneeling - kneel when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations.
Work Experience
  • 1-3 years of related experience of successful supervisory/management experience required to motivate and develop direct reports, as well as size up new talent.
  • 1-3 years of related job experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Basic experience of simple office/operational systems.
  • Excellent verbal, written, people, and diplomacy skills are required.
  • Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short/medium timescales within the overall policy framework.
  • Strong planning and organization skills are required.
Education
  • High School Diploma/GED Preferred

The work environment for this position requires:

  • Regularly working in a non-climate-controlled warehouse where exposure to cold, heat, damp or humid conditions may occur.
