Job summary

ofi is seeking a Sheller Operator for its on-site peanut shelling facility. The role focuses on safe, daily plant operations, equipment adjustments, and adherence to food safety standards.

The candidate will monitor multiple machines and perform routine inspections during the assigned shift, ensuring efficient shelling processes and compliance with safety procedures. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in an environment with peanut allergens.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior shelling or peanut processing experience preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all machines operate properly and adjust during the shift.
  • Conduct hourly checks on equipment (Cleaner, Gravities, Electric Eyes, Hammer Mill, Hull House).
  • Blow out intake and ripple deck screens hourly or as needed.
  • Change shelling grates and bars as necessary.
  • Monitor the meat reclaimer and adjust equipment to maintain meat in hull systems.
  • Maintain proper speed rate at the Cleaner.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections and start-up of shelling equipment.
  • Comply with GMPS, Preventative Controls, and Safety rules.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to ensure sanitary and safe food conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Sheller Operator will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the shelling plant during the designated shift. The ideal candidate will be a safety-conscious Sheller Operator capable of managing daily plant machinery and performing technical adjustments while adhering to food safety and manufacturing standards.

Position Responsibilities
  • Ensure all machines are operating properly and adjust throughout their shift as needed. Hourly checks at the machinery, ie. Cleaner, Gravities, Electric Eyes, Hammer Mill and Hull House.
  • Blow out intake screens and ripple deck screens hourly or as needed.
  • Change shelling grates and bars as necessary.
  • Monitor the meat reclaimer and adjust equipment as needed to maintain a minimum of meats in the hull systems
  • Ensure and maintain proper speed rate at the Cleaner.
  • Responsible for pre-operational inspections and shelling equipment startup
  • Comply with all Olam Peanut Shelling Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPS), Preventative Control Rules, and Occupational Safety Rules.
  • Work closely with maintenance personnel to assure that machinery and equipment are in compliance with all sanitary and Safe Food operating conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • Prior shelling experience/peanut experience preferred
  • Valid Forklift driving certification preferred
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from high distances off the ground
  • This role is performed on site at a facility that regularly processes peanuts. Employees in this position will routinely work in areas where peanuts and related allergens are present and may be exposed by contact or in the air.
