Job summary

Brenntag North America, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Warehouse Operator to handle loading, unloading, and staging chemicals safely in Reading, PA. You will operate forklifts, inspect shipments, maintain logs, and support quality control in coordination with lab personnel.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, forklift certification, ability to read English, and commitment to safety and compliance, including drug screening and background checks. OT may be available.

Qualifications

• Maintain inventory and records; assist in counting physical stock.

Job description

General

• Receive/unload and prepare/load liquid and dry chemical products from/to trucks, tankers, and railcars. This work is physical and requires attention to detail as follows: o Maneuver and connect/disconnect transfer hoses o Climb up tanks, tankers and railcars to open/close top hatches and monitor load o Inspect tanks, tankers and railcars before and after loading/unloading operations o Verify product against receiving/shipping documents, noting and reporting discrepancies and damages o Product sampling and quality control in conjunction with lab personnel o Maintain accurate receiving/shipping logs. Record amounts of product received or distributed via appropriate computer program o Picking and staging product for delivery in accordance with specifications on customer orders or other instructions
• Operation of powered and manual industrial lift trucks (with certification) to transport product in the warehouse, and maintain daily forklift checklist o Move raw materials to the production area and move finished products to the warehouse o Ability to lift and carry bags, pails, boxes, and pallets varying distances o Ability to stage and remove product packaging in complex storage racking within operating areas and warehouses
• Repackage product into proper containers for storage or shipment. This work is physical and requires attention to detail: o Fill cylinders, drums, totes, pails or tankers with product and route to prescribed storage locations making sure of proper labelling, storing, stacking, or palletizing according to company and regulatory requirements o Give special attention to packaging, loading and storing of food grade and USP items. o Operate electronic scale and process devices o Carefully store hazardous waste drums in the prescribed area in full compliance with hazardous waste regulations
• Responsibility for inventory o Examine stored product and report deterioration and damage o Rearrange stored materials o Assist in counting of physical inventory
• General Maintenance o Ensure warehouse is clean, accessible and safe for all visitors and workers o When spills occur, responsible for immediate reporting and cleanup o Protect property from theft or damage
• Other duties as assigned, including mixing and blending as required

Education and Experience

• High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or US military experience. o Candidates with prior experience in working with chemical operations (2+ years) may be considered if education or service requirements are not fully met.
• Possess or able to pass exam to obtain Forklift Operators certification and demonstrate ability to operate a forklift safely.
• Ability to read, comprehend and carry out detailed and simple instructions in English and write simple correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
• Ability to learn and operate technology-based devices such as smart phones, tablets, computers, PLCs, operational technology equipment, etc. to carry out normal business operations.
• Meet or exceed production requirements based on information and or equipment used in the course of work performance
• Wear safety equipment as prescribed by company
• Comply with placarding rules when loading or unloading trucks

Other Job Requirements

• Participate in ongoing safety program including safety meetings and trainings
• Must be available to work any days of the week, any assigned 8-12 hour shift
• Willingness to work overtime or weekends as needed
• Good safety and attendance record
• Ability to work cooperatively with other departments and personnel
• Observe, follow and enforce all company policies and procedures
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
• Must pass E-verify check
• Must be capable of attaining a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) card for participating MTSA facilities within Brenntag. Only applicable to MTSA sites.
• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

• Able to pass company physical and all training requirements, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment, which may include a respirator.
• Able to perform all functions of loading, unloading, packaging, stacking, palletizing, storage, and movement of material
• Able to utilize tools and equipment as necessary to perform job tasks
• Standing and walking for long periods of time, up to 95% of day
• Must be able to operate standing & sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks and drum pickers.
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to the top of tanks, tankers and rail cars
• Frequently exposed to outside weather (from 10% to 75% of the time) sometimes in extreme weather conditions
