Job summary

Description

SUMMARY

Directs and coordinate activities of material handlers, drivers, and other warehouse workers engaged in all areas of safety practice, shipping, receiving, inventory control and general warehouse operations. Will also have hands on responsibilities and be required to perform the above as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Plans pickup and delivery schedules for truck drivers.
  • Assists Branch Manager in recruiting, hiring, promoting, training, and evaluating branch operations personnel; listens to employees and creates a positive working atmosphere in the branch; takes disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Monitors branch inventory levels for all product lines; coordinates with branch manager, sales personnel and purchasing support staff.
  • Answers inquiries on types of service offered, schedules, and areas serviced.
  • Oversees the shipment of all outbound freight to ensure accuracy and sound loading practices for customer deliveries and transfer shipments.
  • Directs and oversees the receiving of all inbound freight to ensure accuracy and proper placement of product; creates receiving Advanced Shipping Notifications, enters information into the computer.
  • Files receiving paperwork.
  • Performs receiving, verifying, and checking delivered material and restocking.
  • Picking orders, palletizing orders, staging orders, loading trucks, unloading trucks, operating sit down and standup forklifts.
  • Uses automated WMS RF scanning device.
  • Prepares UPS and LTL shipments, entering shipping information into World Ship and Cerasis programs.
  • Makes inventory adjustments to reflect accuracy of inventory.
  • Assists Branch Manager in monitoring accurate record of hours worked by all operations personnel, including PTO days.
  • Maintains and promotes a clean, neat, and safe workplace.
  • Purchases local miscellaneous items for warehouse use, as needed, in accordance with established budgetary considerations.
  • Develops and maintains damage/scrap inventory list and inventory for warehouse use and reports accordingly to Branch Manager.
  • Works with the Branch Manager to establish staffing schedules.
  • Coordinates inter-company transfers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees warehouse and delivery operations. Required to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include working with the Branch Manager in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complains and resolving problems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Some college preferred and 2-3 years warehouse management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Forklift certification required. Must be able to successfully complete a forklift safety training and operation course.

  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a high energy, fast paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledgeable with WMS (Command Center/RF scanners).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; have finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to use sense of smell.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required up to 10%. A valid government driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, as determined by company standards and insurer requirements, are required. All vehicles operated for Company purposes must be legally registered with appropriate government authorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The warehouse space is not climate controlled.
