Job summary

PrimeFlight Aviation Services, Inc. is seeking a GSE Level III Mechanic for ORF Airport to join our ground support team. You will fuel, inspect, diagnose, and repair a range of aircraft ground support equipment, ensuring assets are flightline-ready.

The role requires a minimum of 6 years’ verifiable mechanic experience, preferably with GSE or diesel gear, and a valid driver's license. Expect a full-time, Monday–Friday schedule with competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic/technician, ideally with GSE or diesel equipment.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • English fluency for reading technical data and communicating with teammates and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Service GSE with fuel, water, oil, hydraulic fluid, and compressed air; document units and work requested.
  • Expert-level maintenance across motorized and non-motorized airline and aircraft ground support assets.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, braking systems, electrical circuits, and power distribution.
  • Overhaul hydraulic and pneumatic components on lifts and conveyors; address bumpers/bodywork.
  • Restore bag cart curtains and curtain rods; repair towing hitches and tow bars.
  • Replace or machine components including bushings, shafts, end plates, springs, coils, armatures, push rods, valves, manifolds, tubing, hoses, and wiring.
  • Remove, test, and replace components such as carburetors, governors, air/oil cleaners, ignition points, and sensors.
  • Use test equipment and manuals to troubleshoot; set tolerances on bearings, cams, clutches, and drive shafts.
  • Operate and performance-test equipment after repair; complete documentation and track parts usage.
  • Champion safety procedures and PrimeFlight customer service standards; perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Compensation

$34.00/hr – $35.50/hr

You’ll be the go-to expert in the ORF ground support shop. Your morning may start by fueling and topping off fluids, logging incoming equipment, and planning complex repairs. By midday, you could be diagnosing an electrical fault on a belt loader, rebuilding a hydraulic cylinder on a lift, or performing precision adjustments on valves and drive shafts. You’ll wrap up by road-testing equipment, closing out work orders, and ensuring every asset is safe and flightline-ready.

What you bring
  • Minimum 6 years of verifiable experience as a mechanic/technician, ideally with GSE or diesel equipment.
  • Personal hand tools and toolbox; consistent, reliable attendance.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • English fluency for reading technical data and communicating with teammates and customers.
  • Comfort with iPads/Tablets, computers, and mobile devices to retrieve and record work information.
  • Ability to earn airport/agency credentials (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Postal as applicable).
  • Flexible availability for nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7 airline environment.
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Physical demands and environment
  • Lift up to 70 lbs; stand and walk for extended periods indoors and outdoors.
  • Reach and grasp; push and pull; crawl and crouch in tight spaces as needed.
  • Bend, stretch, squat, and kneel; climb and work at heights.
  • Work around moderate to high noise; potential exposure to chemicals, biohazards, and outdoor weather.
  • Hear spoken instructions and alarms; perform repetitive motions of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Vision: close and distance focus, peripheral awareness, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
