Job summary

Alameda Food Bank is seeking a Warehouse Coordinator to support the Warehouse Manager in receiving, transporting, and storing inventory, while upholding sanitation standards in a fast-paced warehouse. You will supervise volunteers and assist with coordinating distribution to clients.

The role requires forklift certification, driving experience in California, strong communication, and the ability to work flexible hours. Starting pay is $30.16/hour with full benefits and a 40-hour week.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year experience as forklift operator with current certification.
• At least 3 years driving experience with valid California Class C driver’s license with insurable driving record and demonstrable skills operating Sprinter size or larger vehicles.
• Accurate, detail-oriented, and punctual.
• Demonstrable mathematical and writing skills.
• Intermediate computer proficiency to read and respond to email communications, as well as enter data into inventory management or database systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to provide customer service to shoppers, public and volunteers.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment.
• Ability to occasionally work early morning, evening, or weekend hours with advanced notice.
• Ability to comply with soft PTO blackout policy during AFB’s peak season (November 1 st through January 15 th ).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Warehouse Manager in most aspects of the warehouse and food inventory operation.

If you said yes to these questions, you may be our next Warehouse Coordinator!The Alameda Food Bank’s team of eight (8) full-time dedicated team members and over 800 passionate community volunteers is seeking a Warehouse Coordinator passionate about using their skills to help solve the problem of food insecurity in our community.

The Warehouse Coordinator assists the Warehouse Manager in most aspects of the warehouse and food inventory operation.Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the position assists in the successful receipt, transport, and storage of inventory and is responsible for ensuring high standards of sanitation.The Warehouse Coordinator supports the Programs Team by supervising and training onsite Food Bank volunteers in the collection, sorting, and distribution of food to clients.A successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a warehouse with food or perishable commodities, preferably in large scale operations and/or food store. Food Banking experience a plus.
• ServSafe certified or ability to earn certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
• One (1) year experience building pallets and preparing for transport.
• Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish or Vietnamese.

Physical Requirements

This position is in an open warehouse environment and requires working for a full shift while exposed to seasonal weather temperatures.Able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

• Participate or assist in physical tasks and activities which include but are not limited to bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, stooping, and reaching above shoulder height to moving product and equipment more than 60 lbs.
• Work in a warehouse environment with temperatures ranging from minus 2 degrees to above 90 degrees.
• Traverse the warehouse floor frequently throughout the day to execute duties.
• Stand/sit for duration of scheduled shift.
• Mobility to respond to moving vehicles, equipment, and loud noises/sounds typical in a warehouse setting.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position working Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours (40 hours per week, thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch). The starting non-negotiable rate of pay for this position is $30.16 per hour ($62,723.75 annualized). AFB offers a competitive benefit package including:

About the Alameda Food Bank

The Alameda Food Bank (AFB) began operating in 1977 from a closet at Twin Towers Methodist Church providing monthly emergency food to an average of ten local families in need. Today, we serve nearly 8,000 food insecure individuals in the City of Alameda. Through our all-choice Island Community Market, the AFB provides free groceries to those that live, work, or go to school on the Island. An average family can receive over half of their monthly groceries. Last year we distributed nearly 3 million pounds of food to sustain our community!
