Job summary

Silgan Containers in West Virginia is seeking a warehouse associate to ship, receive, transport and store materials and finished goods. You will operate lift trucks, pull daily shipments, and help maintain accurate inventory records using the ERP system.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least three years of related experience. You must be able to lift up to 50–75 lbs, read safety rules, and work in a fast-paced environment.

SUMMARY

Ship, receive, transport and store materials and finished goods. Complete simple shipping/receiving documents. Maintain accurate inventory records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lift Operation
  • Operate a variety of lift trucks to move and store materials and finished goods as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of lifts and record daily inspection of equipment.
Shipping and Receiving
  • Determine priorities based on customer needs.
  • Pull and stage daily shipments accurately.
  • Prepare products for transport by banding and/or stretch wrapping.
  • Load and unload trucks, including trailer inspection, and record findings.
  • Process simple shipping documents as required by customers.
  • Receive raw materials in ERP system, including inspections and verifications necessary.
Transportation and Storage
  • Transport materials, finished products and packaging materials into/out of warehouse locations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory using ERP and barcoding system.
  • Deliver supplies to other departments as needed.
  • Arrange, perform, and record cycle count.
Housekeeping
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly warehouse.
  • Report damage to equipment and warehouse facility to Warehouse Supervisor.
Safety
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
Food Safety
  • All employees are required to understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor or manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Three years or more of related experience is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple documents such as safety rules, work instructions and memos. Ability to write simple information on department forms for accountability. Ability to effectively communicate with other employees of the organization as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract and multiply using whole numbers.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions. Ability to identify and correct problems.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Ability to enter data and maintain bar coding and computerized inventory system and email. Run basic reports and process transit paperwork.

LICENSES

Ability to obtain and maintain lift licenses for required warehouse equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. several feet. Employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 75 lbs. several feet from pallet to waist height.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee may work in cold or high temperatures affected by the weather (loading or unloading trailers). The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be worn at all times when performing in this role while in the warehouse: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is required at all times while in the warehouse: including hair nets, gloves and, if applicable, beard nets.
