Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a friendly Retail Associate to process transactions, assist customers, and help maintain attractive donation displays in a thrift-store environment. Participate in sorting and pricing donated items, and support store operations on Saturdays and other days as needed.

Responsibilities include cash handling, basic math, and teamwork to ensure a welcoming shopping experience.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients and other employees.
• Ability to use basic office equipment including cash register, copy machine, fax machine and telephone.
• Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide numbers.
• Ability to perform operations using units of American money.
• Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash register, total customer purchases, receive payment and give change.
• Keep accurate financial records reporting discrepancies to store manager.
• Receive and select merchandise to be displayed for sale from donated items.
• Place items for sale.
• May price items within prescribed pricing guidelines.
• Maintain merchandise displays in neat and orderly appearance.
• Answer questions and assist store customers. May keep record of sales and inventory.
• Assist in maintaining overall appearance, cleanliness and safe conditions in the store area.
• Sort incoming donations into appropriate locations for processing.
• Wash and clean incoming donations for sale floor.
• Must be able to add/subtract and make change.
• Other duties as assigned.
