Hy-Vee seeks an Assistant General Manager to partner with the General Manager and keep the store running at its best. You will lead the evening and part-time crew, oversee inventory, coordinate marketing materials, and step in as store leader when the GM is away.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
• Six months or less of related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Supervise and assign work for the evening and part-time crew and train new employees.
• Stock, rotate, and face product on shelves and review out-of-stocks and back stock.
• Order merchandise as directed by the department head and control inventory.
• Monitor sales and suggest improvements to the General Manager.
• Meet with vendors to obtain point-of-purchase materials and other sales-enhancing items.
• Price items for displays and update signage as needed.
• Handle and resolve customer issues with care and professionalism.
• Coordinate marketing materials including digital assets for the store.
• Conduct special events including tastings.
• Unload trucks and ensure proper stocking.
• Maintain clean display cases and equipment.
• Instruct and review the work of staff to maintain standards.
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and maintain a clean work area.
• Assist in other areas and take on special projects as assigned.
• Adhere to Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.

What You'll Do

No two days are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going out of your way to make every visit a great one
• Supervise and assign work for the evening and part-time crew and train new employees
• Stock, rotate, and face product on shelves and review out-of-stocks, ad items, and back stock
• Order merchandise as directed by the department head and control inventory
• Monitor sales regularly and make sales suggestions and ideas to the General Manager
• Meet with vendors to obtain point-of-purchase materials and other sales-enhancing items
• Price items for displays and review price tags, updating signage as needed
• Handle and resolve customer issues with care and professionalism
• Coordinate marketing materials including digital assets for the store
• Conduct special events including tastings
• Unload trucks and ensure product is stocked in the appropriate area
• Clean display cases and monitor maintenance of equipment and floors
• Assume management duties in the absence of the General Manager
• Instruct, assign, and review the work of Cashiers, Department Specialists, and Associates, maintaining standards and coordinating activities
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area at all times
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
• Adhere to all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
• Report to work when scheduled and on time

Your Skills

• Follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions with attention to detail
• Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
• File, post, and organize materials; copy data accurately between records; and gather basic information through interviews
• Guide and direct team members clearly and provide basic direction with confidence
• Work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment

Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required
• Six months or less of related work experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have continuous exposure to noise, temperature extremes, and dampness, with frequent exposure to equipment movement hazards and cleaning chemicals or solvents, and occasional potential for electrical hazards. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
