Job Overview
The Wait Assistant (Busser) is primarily responsible for assisting food servers in providing quality service to members and guests, as well as clearing and resetting tables. This position is also responsible for all sanitation and health code requirements for wait‑assisting areas. The Food Runner assists servers by delivering completed and correct food orders to members and guests in all dining areas, allowing servers the freedom to provide excellent service. They also assist the Expeditor in assembling each order by checking each item for accuracy and ensuring appropriate condiments and utensils are present. The role requires daily interaction with club staff, members, and guests and the ability to work with a variety of personalities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Attentive to guests at all times and pays specific attention to tables hosted, bringing appropriate water, bread/butter, etc.
- Ensures all orders are made according to guests’ desires.
- Ensures all food items are accounted for according to the POS chit.
- Maintains detailed knowledge of the menu, including preparation styles and plating.
- Understands the flow of service within the kitchen and can properly communicate needs from FOH to the Expeditor.
- Understands the rotation of specials and features in each dining space.
- Memorizes all sections within the dining rooms, table numbers, and seat numbers associated with those tables.
- Understands tray and plate‑carrying protocol and adheres to best practices.
- Checks expiration dates and quality of opened bottles before service and during stocking.
- Ensures work area is stocked completely before and after every shift.
- When stocking, ensures proper security procedures are followed to keep storerooms locked properly after use.
- Ensures correct handling and covering of food according to hygiene and health department regulations.
- Performs opening, running, and closing work assignments on time and fully every shift.
- Ensures workstation and surrounding area are clean, sanitized, and disinfected properly according to health code guidelines for members at all times.
- Works in tandem with serving and kitchen staff to ensure food quality and timeliness.
- Establishes and maintains positive and professional relationships with members, guests, coworkers, and management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous wait assistant/bussing or food runner experience is desired.
- Work will require continuous standing and occasional sitting.
- Involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20‑50 pounds).
- Ability to climb on stepladder to complete job elements or facilitate maintenance issues.
- Bends, leans, and stoops without hindrance.
- Fine motor skills.
- Ability to prioritize, anticipate situations, and take quick action.
Work Environment
- Fast‑paced front‑of‑house dining and pub environment, including indoor and outdoor areas.
- Moderate to high noise levels from guests, staff, and service activity.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Hands‑on service responsibilities, including assisting servers, delivering food, clearing and resetting tables, and maintaining guest areas.
- Exposure to hot and cold conditions depending on dining area or weather.
- Close collaboration with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure timely and accurate service.
- Direct interaction with members and guests to maintain a welcoming and professional experience.
