Job summary

WD in San Jose is seeking an Equipment Engineer to maintain and manage specific toolsets on a manufacturing production line. The ideal candidate will work in a cleanroom environment with minimal supervision and demonstrate a willingness to learn and solve problems creatively.

As an Equipment Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and managing specific toolset(s) on a wafer manufacturing production line in a class 100 cleanroom environment. The successful candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision, take initiative and collaborate effectively; they will demonstrate a willingness to learn, flexibility, creative problem solving, exemplary communication skills and an ability to think on their feet.

Responsibilities
  • Acquire, review and analyze tool parametric data as well as wafer metrology to formulate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support, train and work with line maintenance on the assigned toolset(s).
  • Create procedures and checklists for the line to use to help ensure uniform and effective preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from Maintenance, Equipment Engineering and Process Engineering.
  • Engineer solutions. Where necessary engineer problems out of the existing tools to increase productivity, increase MTBF, lower MTTR.
  • Provide and ensure informational resources are available to all personnel working on the toolset.
  • Provide technical training and certification for maintenance personnel.
Qualifications
  • Technical degree in Electronics, military experience, or semiconductor industry experience.
  • Must have excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Min 0-5+ years’ experience in vacuum, photo, or wet/plating technologies.
  • Ability to read electrical schematic diagrams and assembly drawings.
  • Understanding of failure mechanisms, ability to isolate, determine root cause and repair.
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook), Mediawiki.
  • Programming languages in PLC, Python, HTML, JavaScript a plus.
  • Effective team player with proven relationship building & communication skills, including cross‑functionally with maintenance, manufacturing, engineering, peers, management, customers, and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of control systems and/or PLC (process logic control).
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
Skills
  • Wet‑plating (NiFe, MLO, Raider‑MLO, bake oven, Asher‑etch, NMT & SRD systems, etc.), resist strip/lift‑off, chemical etch & CMP.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: 115,200.00 – 153,600.00

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, and experience; skills, ability, knowledge of the job; performance, contribution and results; geographic location; shift; internal and external equity; and business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. It may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in those states. This range may be modified in the future.
  • If your position is non‑exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws. You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
  • You will be eligible to be considered for bonuses under either WD’s Short Term Incentive Plan (“STI Plan”) or the Sales Incentive Plan (“SIP”) which provides incentive awards based on company and individual performance, depending on your role and your performance. You may also be eligible to participate in our annual Long‑Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to WD’s standard terms and conditions for restricted stock unit awards.
