Job summary

WABC-TV invites journalism students to join the 7 On Your Side internship in New York for January 2027 through June 2027. This part-time, 24-hour-per-week program provides hands-on exposure to pre-interviewing viewers and pitching stories to the producer.

You will shadow reporter Nina Pineda on shoots, learn on-camera techniques, and develop newsroom skills while supporting the consumer unit’s mission to inform and advocate for viewers.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in an accredited college/university and taking at least one class.
• Eligibility for Disney College Program or Disney Internship as part of program.
• Experience with MS Office and OneDrive workflows.
• Experience creating social media content and adapting content for digital platforms.
• Experience writing in AP style.

Responsibilities

• Pre-interview viewers/guests, compile documentation, and pitch stories to the producer.
• Provide excellent customer service to viewers; organize documents and manage project materials.
• Shadow reporter on shoots, learn on-camera techniques, and create sample stand-ups.

About the Role & Program

WABC-TV, the flagship Disney/ABC–owned television station in New York, is the most-watched television station in the New York Television market and the United States. WABC also leads the market in station websites and has the highest social media engagement! WABC-TV's 7 On Your Side unit is responsible for producing dozens of segments each year that inform and entertain, making viewers both smarter and richer. The consumer unit produces content that runs both on over-the-air broadcasts and on WABC-TV's many digital platforms. Most importantly, 7 On Your Side serves as an advocate for our viewers. For the past decade, 7 On Your Side has successfully recovered more than a million dollars each year in restitution for our viewers!!!

This internship is a part-time (24 hours), six-month commitment in the New York, New York area from January 2027 - June 2027.

What You Will Do

Every single day, 7 On Your Side gets dozens of emails from our viewers. Each is a cry for help from someone who feels they've been scammed or ripped off. It's the intern's job to effectively and thoughtfully pre-interview many of these viewers to determine if the story is worth the unit's time, effort, and resources.

As our intern, you will:

• Be responsible for pre-interviewing viewers/guests, compiling documentation, and pitching strong stories to the producer.
• Exercise excellent customer service skills with viewers in need, organize their documents, material and maintain the project relationship.
• Shadow reporter Nina Pineda on numerous shoots, learning on-camera techniques, and doing sample stand-ups!

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Interest in journalism, television news, or multimedia storytelling demonstrated through coursework, student media, projects, or internships.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and communicate professionally by phone and email.
• Experience with broadcast journalism, television news production, and/or news script writing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including OneDrive file-sharing workflows.
• Experience creating social media content using mobile or web-based editing tools.
• Experience writing in AP Style and adapting broadcast content for digital platforms.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
• Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Possess unrestricted work authorization.

Additional Information

• Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship.
• Fully available from January 2027 through June 2027.
• All candidates must be willing to work 24 hours/week during a Monday through Friday schedule.
• Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the New York, New York area.
• Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work in the New York, New York area.

Salary and Benefits

The pay rate for this role in New York is $22.50 per hour.
