Job summary

Beacon Health Options is seeking a part-time CT Technologist to perform CT scans with precision under radiologist supervision. You will obtain patient history, optimize image quality, and ensure equipment readiness while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

The role involves scheduling, training new staff, and upholding department protocols in a hospital setting. Weekend coverage may be required, with on-site work in Indiana.

Qualifications

  • Perform CT scans with independence and precision following radiologist directions.
  • Obtain patient history and select factors to optimize image quality.
  • Ensure equipment calibration, warm-up, and safe operation.
  • Explain CT steps to patients and manage contrast and IV starts where needed.
  • Maintain department protocols, scheduling, and patient flow.

Job description

  • Schedule Part-time - Day - Weekend shifts are available in the following schedules: 7a-7p, 9a-9p and 11a-11p

Reports to the Coordinator/Director. Performs computerized tomography (CT) scans and procedures that require independent judgment and a high degree of precision and skill in the application of high technology computerized CT equipment. Follows protocols and procedures as directed by the radiologist and/or supervising technologist.

CT Technical:

  • Obtains patient history to ensure proper procedure is performed.
  • Selects technical factors to optimize image quality.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Reports any malfunctions of equipment to supervisor.
  • Cleans and maintain equipment.
  • Performs equipment calibration and warm-up as needed.
  • Be able to load and select technical factors for Power Injections.
  • Recognition of pathology and adjusts scanning as necessary.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

Department Function:

  • Assumes responsibility for schedule management/patient flow.
  • Follows established department protocols. If necessary, protocol exam with reading Radiologist.
  • Explains the steps of the CT procedure to the patient.
  • Identifies patients with contrast allergies and pre-medicates according to department policy.
  • Reports any IV infiltrations to EMS HITS.
  • Orients and train new CT staff.
  • Work with Job Shadow, students, etc. to familiarize them with CT.
  • Includes patient in decisions about their treatment.
  • Responsible for wearing radiation badge and reviewing Landauer.
  • Reports when posted.
  • Coordinates flow of patients in department when necessary.
  • Keeps room adequately stocked with linens and supplies.
  • Verifies all written orders prior to beginning procedure to ensure proper diagnosis is included.
  • Obtains patient history so that proper procedure may be performed.
  • Completes all steps to ensure that images are on the PACS and ready to read.
  • Enters accurate exam codes so proper charging is accomplished.
  • Is familiar with splitting exams into separate folders.
  • Scans all pertinent documents into patient file in PACS.
  • Films images as requested and ensure quality.
  • Burns images to CDs as requested and verify that images are viewable.
  • Enters accurate exam information into Radiology Information System.
  • Familiar with Vital/AW workstations functions.

Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department:

  • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associates Degree or Professional Training ARRT, State Certification, must maintain current CPR certification. Registered in CT Scan with ARRT (required within 6 months of eligibility to maintain position). A minimum of 1 to 2 years of job-related experience is required: 1-2 years previous experience as a radiographer required. Six months CT experience preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Requires current registry with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Requires a current certificate from the State.
  • Familiarity with CT equipment.
  • Familiarity with cross-section anatomy is a must.
  • Limited nursing skills and sterile techniques, including intravenous catheter administrations.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a hospital and patient care environment.
  • Must take call and report to hospital within 30 minutes of being called in.
  • Must commit to a weekend alternative schedule.

Physical Demands:

Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
