Job summary

Guy Carpenter is seeking a talented data scientist to join our Underwriting Analytics team. This hybrid role requires in-office presence at least three days per week in the Bay Area.

You will develop analytical models, data products, and decision tools that support underwriting strategy and portfolio insights. The role blends data science with business strategy, collaborating with technical and commercial stakeholders to deliver scalable insights and enhance underwriting decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field.
• 3-6 years of data science/analytics experience.
• Prior insurance industry experience preferred.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance analytical models and data products for underwriting and portfolio management.
• Apply statistical and ML techniques to large datasets to identify patterns and risk insights.
• Collaborate with underwriting, broking, actuarial, catastrophe modeling, and portfolio teams to translate business questions into analytics.
• Build models and frameworks for risk segmentation, portfolio monitoring, and underwriting optimization.
• Design exploratory data analyses to assess portfolio characteristics, loss experience, and market trends.
• Engineer features from structured and semi-structured datasets including exposure, submission, pricing and claims.
