Palomar is seeking a VP of Statutory Reporting to lead all statutory financial reporting activities, ensure SAP compliance, and drive process improvements for a growing insurer across the United States. This executive will manage regulatory filings, internal controls, and cross-functional partnerships to support strategic initiatives.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in NAIC filings, strong accounting credentials, and proven leadership in a complex regulatory environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • 10+ years of progressive NAIC insurance filings experience.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in a similar role.
  • CPA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the statutory close and reporting processes for monthly, quarterly, and annual results.
  • Oversee preparation, review, and submission of all statutory reporting requirements (NAIC/state filings).
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure data integrity for statutory disclosures.
  • Partner with Corporate Finance, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Investments, Treasury, Tax, and Data teams.
  • Lead RBC calculations and related regulatory capital reporting; monitor regulatory changes.

The Details:

Palomar Holdings, with five active P&C carriers operating across all 50 states, is seeking a VP of Statutory Reporting to provide strategic leadership for our Statutory Reporting function. Reporting to theEVP, Treasury and Financial Operations, this executive will oversee all statutory financial reporting activities, drive process improvements, manage regulatory filings, and ensure compliance with NAIC and state insurance regulations. This opportunity is ideal for a collaborative finance leader who combines strong technical accounting expertise with exceptional project management, team development, and stakeholder engagement skills.

What will you do:
Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and oversight for the Statutory Reporting function, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team while establishing scalable processes to support organizational growth.
  • Lead the statutory close and reporting processes, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of statutory financial data and disclosures.
  • Drive process optimization initiatives to enhance reporting efficiency, scalability, and compliance.
Statutory Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of all statutory reporting requirements, including:
  • NAIC and state regulatory Quarterly and Annual Statements
  • Supplemental regulatory filings and schedules
  • Group Capital Calculation filings, AM Best Supplemental Rating Questionnaires, and other required regulatory submissions
  • Ensure compliance with statutory accounting principles (SAP), NAIC guidance, and state insurance regulations.
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Serve as a key finance partner to Corporate Finance, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Investments, Treasury, Tax, and Data teams to ensure the accuracy and completeness of statutory reporting.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to evaluate the statutory implications of business initiatives, transactions, and strategic priorities.
Technical Accounting & Regulatory Change Management
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes, assessing impacts and leading implementation efforts across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, reporting procedures, and governance frameworks to support compliance and best practices.
  • Lead the preparation and analysis of Risk-Based Capital (RBC) calculations and related regulatory capital reporting.
  • Deliver meaningful insights and recommendations to executive leadership regarding capital adequacy, regulatory trends, and enterprise risk exposures.
External Audits & Regulatory Relations
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, regulatory agencies, and insurance department examiners.
  • Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations, and audits, ensuring timely resolution and effective stakeholder management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies and external business partners to support the organization's compliance objectives.

  • Proficiency in complex statutory accounting and capital requirements, with the ability to simplify concepts for broader audiences.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (minimum requirement).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in NAIC insurance filings.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in a similar role.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability and desire to be a problem-solver.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Credentials/Experience:
  • CPA certification.
  • Public company experience.
  • M&A experience.

Pay Range:

$190,000-$285,000 + Bonus Potential & Participation in our Competitive Long-Term Incentive (LTI) Program.

The above pay range is for all US-based roles based on function and level, benchmarked against companies of similar size and scope. To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock grants. In addition, we offer a highly competitive benefits package. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and qualifications, and may vary from the amounts listed above
