Zurich North America is seeking an experienced VP, Senior Underwriting Manager for our Group Captives Team. This role can be remote or hybrid into a Zurich office. You will lead market-facing underwriters, drive growth with distributors, and oversee negotiations while coaching teams.

The position requires extensive underwriting experience, leadership, and a track record in specialized lines. Travel up to 50% internationally is expected, with competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years of underwriting/market facing experience in commercial insurance
• Or 20+ years in claims or underwriting support within commercial insurance, with relevant segment exposure
• Experience in a specialized line of business or segment
• 2+ years of people management experience

Responsibilities

• Manage market-facing underwriters to pursue renewals and new accounts
• Identify growth opportunities with key distributors for areas of responsibility
• Oversee negotiations of terms and conditions and close deals
• Ensure cross-sell to increase product density within the account
• Provide coaching on sales best practices
• Calculate target price using underwriting tools
• Collaborate with actuarial on rate/price structure
• Manage producer relationships with line of business and segment analyses
• Market Zurich products through agency plant and brokerage community

Job description

Zurich is currently looking to hire an experienced VP, Senior Underwriting Manager for our Group Captives Team! This position is available as a remote opportunity or hybrid into one of our Zurich office locations. As one of the leaders in this space, we work together with the largest captives consultants in the U.S. to deliver a wide range of services to member-owned, agency and other (fronted) captives.

In this role, your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Manage market facing underwriters who proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
• Identifies new growth opportunities with key distributors for areas of responsibility.
• Oversee negotiations of Terms & Conditions and closes deals.
• Ensure cross-sell within areas of responsibility to increase product density with the account.
• Provide continuous coaching on sales best practices.
• Calculate Target Price accurately by utilizing underwriting tools appropriately.
• Identify market trends and exposures that may impact business results. Work with actuarial to insure a proper rate / price structure.
• Manage relationships with producers by conducting line of business, book of business, class and segment analysis to ensure profitability and growth.
• Market company products and services through agency plant and brokerage community.
• Support development and maintenance of agent/broker relationships to achieve profitable growth, market share, product mix, new business and account retention.
• Review agency books of business as well as profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans.
• Travel at least 50% Internationally

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Broker, Carrier or Risk Management area within the Commercial Insurance industry
  OR
• Bachelor’s degree with 20 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industry
  AND
• Experience in a specialized line of business or segment
• 2 or more years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPCU or ARM
• Advanced knowledge of product lines and insurance industry
• Excellent skills in relationship building
• Results oriented Established Underwriting/Insurance exposure
• Evidence of effective negotiation skills

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The proposed Salary range for this position is $201,500.00 - $330,100.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 25%.
