Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Data Engineer in Massachusetts to develop and optimize data pipelines and Azure-based data solutions. The role focuses on Azure Databricks, Snowflake, and Synapse, delivering scalable data infrastructure and secure data governance.

You will collaborate with analysts, engineers, and operations teams to translate data requirements into robust data models and pipelines, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring data quality.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in IT or related field.
12+ years IT industry experience.
8+ years data pipeline and data warehousing experience.
5+ years as a Data Engineer focusing on Azure Databricks and Snowflake.
5+ years cloud development with Azure, DevOps, Kubernetes, Docker.
Hands-on with Azure Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Databricks, SQL DB.
Experience designing Snowflake data ingestion pipelines.
Strong SQL; experience with Scala or Java.
Knowledge of Snowflake, Teradata, SQL Server, Oracle.
Experience in multi-developer environments using Git/SVN.
Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect a plus.
Experience in the financial industry.
Experience with agile development.
Strong written and verbal communication; teamwork.
Ability to multitask and solve problems.

Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines and systems supporting the acquisition, storage, transformation, and analysis of large data volumes
Design, develop, and maintain Azure data pipelines ingesting, transforming, and loading data into Azure data lakes, Databricks Delta Lake, and Snowflake
Implement efficient ELT/ETL and data transformation processes
Integrate data from diverse sources into unified views
Design and implement data models and database schemas for structured and unstructured data
Streamline data import and transformation processes using modern data processing and pipeline tools
Integrate with State Street systems and implement entitlement solutions including RBAC and ABAC
Collaborate with analysts, software engineers, operations teams, data scientists, and other stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions
Monitor data pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and ensure data integrity and security
Implement data quality controls and validation processes
Define and enforce data governance standards and policies
Optimize queries, data structures, and infrastructure configurations for performance and scalability
Implement security measures and address data security vulnerabilities and risks
Document data engineering processes, data flows, and system configurations
Stay current with data engineering trends, tools, and technologies
Support development teams with database and server instances, complex query tuning, data design input, and Azure data infrastructure management across Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Synapse

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree level qualification in a computer or IT related subject
12+ years of overall IT industry experience
8+ years of overall data pipeline and Data Warehousing experience
5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, focusing on Azure Databricks and Snowflake data solutions
5+ years of experience in cloud-based development, including Azure Services, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, and Docker
Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL Database, and related Azure services
Hands-on experience designing Snowflake data ingestion pipelines into the Data Warehouse
Strong experience in data engineering, data pipeline development, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling
Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with Scala or Java
In-depth knowledge of SQL and relational and non-relational databases, including Snowflake, Teradata, SQL Server, and Oracle
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and best practices
Experience in a multi-developer environment using version control such as Git and SVN
Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect certification is a plus
Experience working in the financial industry
Experience with agile development methodology
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to multitask and solve problems
Standard business hours aligned to project and stakeholder needs (8am to 5pm)
