Job summary

Cathay Bank is seeking a Relationship Manager to drive new loan client acquisition and manage a diverse loan portfolio. This role partners with underwriters and support staff to deliver timely Credit Commitment Reports and ensure high‑quality credit decisions.

The RM will negotiate terms, review closing documents, and maintain compliance while delivering exceptional client service. A strong background in commercial lending and underwriting is essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial lending and banking experience with thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
• Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
• Prior underwriting experience in the requisite commercial lending area.
• Extensive knowledge of the Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
• Knowledge of commercial and specialty group banking products and demonstrated ability to cross-sell such products.

Responsibilities

• Identify and bring new clients to the Bank, achieving annual new loan commitment/outstanding goals set by the Team Manager.
• Negotiate and structure primary loan terms with clients, circulating concept memos as needed before issuing term sheets/LOIs.
• Collaborate with underwriters, loan assistants and support staff to prepare Credit Commitment Reports (CCR) for new loans, renewals, amendments and annual reviews.
• Present each CCR to the required approval authorities; the RM is ultimately responsible for the content.
• Review loan documents—internally prepared or from outside counsel—to ensure accuracy.
• Ensure all items for loan closing are in process, managing client experience of the closing process.
• Monitor and manage credit quality of the assigned portfolio.
• Ensure each credit is properly risk‑rated per the Bank’s system.
• Evaluate and determine actions on potential credit quality issues to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss.
• Maintain compliance with Bank, regulatory and credit requirements while delivering best‑in‑class customer service within required timeframes.
• Mentor and coach junior officers and loan staff.

Qualifications

Education: U.S. college graduate in a related field.

• Experience:
  • 5‑7 years of commercial lending and banking experience with thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
  • Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
  • Prior underwriting experience in the requisite commercial lending area.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
  • Knowledge of commercial and specialty group banking products and demonstrated ability to cross‑sell such products.
• Skills/Ability:
  • PC proficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of multi‑tasking.
  • Effective in a fast‑paced, high‑production team environment.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong decision‑making responsibility and accountability.
  • Effective communication with all levels of Bank personnel.

Other Details

Salary: $150,000 – $175,000 per year. Pay is determined based on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
