Job summary

Talener is assisting a Greenwich, CT-based investment firm in identifying a VP, Software Engineer for its Quant Research Development team. You will build mission-critical backend systems in Java and Python, delivering scalable services to researchers and portfolio managers.

The role is hybrid with onsite requirements 3x per week at the Greenwich office, offering a strong compensation package and collaboration with leading engineers in a cutting-edge environment.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, backend in Java and Python.
  • Experience as Senior SWE or Quant Developer in financial services, front-office/trading environment.
  • Experience building distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-based apps.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mission-critical back-end systems for research and trading workflows.
  • Collaborate with researchers and portfolio managers to implement research-driven features.
  • Lead projects, contribute to design/architecture, and mentor junior engineers while staying hands-on.

Job description

Our client is a prestigious, global investment firm that has been a leader in the industry for 20+ years. With a HQ in Greenwich, Connecticut, this firm has over 500 employees and is one of the most academic, tech-forward, and cutting edge firms in the world. They are seeking a VP, Software Engineer to join their front‑office Quant Research Development team, where you will build mission‑systems that support researchers and portfolio managers.

Job Title:

VP, Software Engineer / Quant Research Developer

Location:

Office in Greenwich, CT (50min commute from Grand Central). This is a hybrid role, with an onsite requirement 3x per week.

Required Technology and Skills:
  • 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with expertise in complex backend-development in Java and Python
  • Experience working as a Senior SWE or Quant Developer within financial services – ideally in front-office / trading environment – and working close with researchers and portfolio managers
  • Expertise in building distributed systems, microservice architecture, and cloud-based applications
  • Experience working within AWS environment
  • Experience with Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies
  • Experience contributing to design, architecture, leading projects, and mentoring junior engineers, while remaining hands‑on
  • Great work ethic and ability to be a team player
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with AI technologies and using AI to accelerate engineering workflows
Additional Skills:
  • Advanced degree in IT, Computer Science, Financial Engineering, or STEM related field
Salary Range:

200,000 – 250,000 base salary (Based on experience), plus 25% guaranteed annual cash bonus bonus (Total cash compensation $250,000 – $300,000)
