Job description

Lead the Portfolio. Protect the Bank. Drive the Strategy.

An outstanding opportunity is available for an accomplished, analytical, and relationship-driven VP Portfolio Manager to join a respected and growing banking organization in Corona, California. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a seasoned commercial banking professional who understands that successful portfolio management is about far more than reviewing financial statements and checking boxes.

As the VP Portfolio Manager, you will serve as a key strategic partner to Relationship Managers, Credit Administration, senior leadership, and clients. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of commercial relationships, evaluate credit risk, support new lending opportunities, monitor portfolio performance, and help ensure the bank continues to grow responsibly and profitably.

This is an opportunity to bring both your credit expertise and business acumen to the table, taking ownership of complex relationships while helping shape sound lending decisions and long-term client success.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage and actively monitor a portfolio of commercial banking relationships, ensuring strong credit quality, risk management, and portfolio performance.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including cash flow analysis, borrower and guarantor financial review, collateral evaluation, and industry assessment.
  • Partner closely with Relationship Managers to analyze, structure, underwrite, and present new and existing credit opportunities.
  • Prepare detailed and well-supported credit memorandums, loan presentations, renewals, modifications, and recommendations for appropriate approval levels and loan committees.
  • Monitor covenant compliance, financial performance, borrowing trends, maturity dates, annual reviews, and other key portfolio requirements.
  • Identify emerging credit concerns early and develop proactive strategies to mitigate risk and protect the bank.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on complex credit relationships, providing thoughtful recommendations regarding loan structure, terms, risk ratings, and overall relationship strategy.
  • Support the growth and retention of commercial relationships through exceptional service and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Collaborate with internal partners across Credit, Loan Operations, Treasury Management, Compliance, and other banking functions to deliver a seamless client experience.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of banking policies, regulatory requirements, credit standards, and market conditions.
  • Participate in client meetings and relationship calls alongside Relationship Managers as needed.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to deepen existing relationships and expand the bank's share of wallet.
  • Help strengthen portfolio management processes, reporting, and overall credit discipline throughout the organization.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise to junior credit and portfolio management professionals when appropriate.
What You’ll Bring

The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial banking professional with a strong command of credit analysis, commercial lending, portfolio management, and relationship strategy. You are comfortable digging into complex financials, asking the difficult questions, identifying risks before they become problems, and balancing thoughtful credit discipline with smart business growth.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive commercial banking, credit, underwriting, or portfolio management experience, with senior-level experience strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial credit analysis, financial statement analysis, cash flow, collateral evaluation, and loan structuring.
  • Experience managing complex commercial lending relationships and portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and industrial lending, commercial real estate, and other business banking products.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and communicate credit risk.
  • Experience preparing comprehensive credit presentations and recommendations for senior leadership or loan committees.
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis and banking systems.
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to build credibility across departments and with clients.
Why This Opportunity?

This is not a back-office portfolio role where your expertise sits quietly behind a spreadsheet. You will have a meaningful seat at the table, working alongside experienced banking professionals and contributing directly to the growth, profitability, and risk management of the organization.

If you are a strategic banking professional who enjoys complex credit, strong client relationships, thoughtful problem-solving, and making an impact, this could be the next major step in your career.
