Job summary

Vaco by Highspring in Memphis seeks a Vice President of Asset & Brokerage Operations to own end-to-end asset operations and P&L across asset, fleet, and brokerage functions. You will lead safety, compliance, service, and back-office activities while aligning with ownership and the leadership team.

  • Seven or more years of experience in asset-based truckload transportation.
  • At least three years of experience leading through managers.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a transportation P&L, beyond responsibility for an assigned budget.
  • Broad knowledge of fleet operations, safety, maintenance, driver management, contractor or owner-operator management, and back-office functions.
  • Strong working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, CSA performance, and DOT compliance.
  • Experience leading distributed teams, driver populations, outside vendors, or other employees who are not located in one central office.
  • Owner-operator or contractor fleet experience.
  • Documented success improving driver retention.
  • Ability to work on-site in Memphis or a genuine willingness to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Own the asset operation's P&L, including revenue, cost per mile, contribution margin, budgeting, capital planning, capacity pricing, and freight mix.
  • Develop and execute an operating plan that supports disciplined, financially sound growth.
  • Lead fleet utilization and service performance, manage and develop fleet leadership while establishing clear accountability across van, flatbed, and brokerage operations.
  • Maintain executive accountability for FMCSA and DOT compliance, CSA performance, roadside inspections, accident prevention, and claims.
  • Direct equipment strategy, including tractor and trailer specifications, purchasing, disposal, trade cycles, lease-versus-buy decisions, preventive maintenance, inspections, fuel programs, and vendor relationships.
  • Improve network design, trailer utilization, drop-and-hook programs, deadhead, dwell, and overall service performance.
  • Oversee billing accuracy, DSO, time from delivery to invoice, TMS data integrity, and operational reporting.

Job description

Vice President of Asset & Brokerage Operations

We are partnering with an established transportation and logistics organization to identify a Vice President of Asset Operations who will take full ownership of a growing operation.

The Vice President will have end-to-end accountability for the operation's financial performance, freight strategy, equipment, people, safety, compliance, and customer service. The role reports directly to ownership and works closely with the broader leadership team.

An established team is already in place, including fleet management, dispatch, safety and compliance, and back-office support. The opportunity is to bring these functions under one accountable leader who can strengthen performance and build a disciplined platform for sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

What Success Looks Like

The Vice President will establish and manage performance measures across:

  • Contribution margin, operating ratio, cost per mile, and revenue productivity
  • Equipment utilization, loaded miles, deadhead, trailer turns, and dwell
  • CSA performance, roadside out-of-service rates, preventable accidents, and claims cost
  • Driver and owner-operator retention, turnover, and time to seat equipment
  • On-time pickup and delivery, tender acceptance, and customer scorecards
  • Maintenance cost, fleet age, and unplanned out-of-service time
  • Billing accuracy, DSO, and delivery-to-invoice cycle time
