Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a visionary leader to guide nuclear development regulation and policy. You will shape regulatory filings, coordinate with state and federal teams, and drive advocacy to enable nuclear deployment across jurisdictions.

This executive role requires deep proficiency in utility regulation, strategic thinking, and outstanding communication to engage with regulators, policymakers, and industry partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (JD, MBA, public policy, engineering).
• 15+ years in utility regulation, energy policy, legislative affairs, nuclear project development, or related fields.
• Experience with state utility commissions and multi-jurisdiction regulatory staff is strongly preferred.
• Exceptional strategic thinking and the ability to distill complex issues into compelling regulatory narratives.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills; able to lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead regulatory strategy for nuclear development across regulated jurisdictions.
• Translate project delivery into regulatory filings, plans, and engagement strategies.
• Lead legislative strategy at state and federal levels; build relationships with governors, legislators, and committees.
• Represent AEP before regulatory commissions and other governmental stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering, finance, legal, and external affairs to integrate policy into project planning.
• Monitor policy trends and develop recommendations to influence nuclear policy frameworks.
