Job summary

RTW Investments, LP in New York seeks a Vice President–New Ventures, Asset Selection to lead identification and evaluation of opportunities for company creation in biopharma and medical technologies. You will develop investment theses and build NewCos with strong PnL potential.

The role reports to the Managing Director, New Ventures, and requires deep life sciences knowledge, a track record in biotech investing, and readiness to travel up to 15%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MD/PhD) strongly preferred.
• 5+ years in biotech/pharmaceutical investing, buy-side preferred.
• MD/PhDs with <5 years’ experience considered for switch.

Responsibilities

• Source and maintain pipeline of novel drug development ideas for NewCos.
• Conduct proprietary research across science, disease, commercial, IP, CMC, clin dev, regulatory, and valuation.
• Write, pitch, and maintain investment notes for company ideas.
• Build pitch decks including deal terms, clinical development, and financing.
• Develop expertise within therapeutic areas of coverage.
• Attend medical, banking and partnering conferences.
• Convert ideas into NewCos with PnL impact.

This position is full-time and reports to the Managing Director, New Ventures.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degreerequired, Advanced degree (MD or PhD)stronglypreferred. All applicants MUST have a degree in and a strong understanding of biological sciences.
• 5+ years of experience focused on the biotech/pharmaceutical sector, buy-side role preferred
• Also open to MD/PhDs with <5 years of experience who are looking to make a career switch
• Ability to operate independently on both strategic and tactical tasks, and clearly articulate the process involved
• Investor mindset, deep experience with producing research notes
• Relevant academic or industry experience in the life sciences is preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated tenacity in conducting detailed research and presenting findings
• New York based with willingness to travel (15%)

The total compensation for this role includesabasesalary,competitivebonus structure, and comprehensive benefits. The target annual cash compensation range is $425,000+ ,thoughwill bedeterminedby a variety of factors including prior experience, relevantexpertise, and the scope of responsibilities assigned.
