Job summary

Continental General seeks a Vice President, General Accounting & Bank Ops to lead treasury, AP, AR, GL, reconciliations, unclaimed property, and banking operations. This high‑visibility role requires strategic thinking, strong controls, and team leadership in a regulated insurance environment.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days in-office in Austin, TX area; remote options may be available for eligible applicants across the continental US.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • CPA preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees Treasury functions, including banking relationships, cash management, and wire transfer processing.
  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of bank reconciliations, cash reconciliations, and general ledger activity reconciliations.
  • Oversees unclaimed property management, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with state escheatment requirements.
  • Directs the preparation and filing of premium tax filings and other state regulatory filings.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Vice President, General Accounting & Bank Ops to lead the operational side of the accounting function, including Treasury, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger and cash reconciliations, unclaimed property management, and statutory and premium tax reporting. This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who is strategic, detail-oriented, and skilled at building strong teams and controls in a regulated insurance environment. Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs and oversees Treasury functions, including banking relationships, cash management, and wire transfer processing
  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of bank reconciliations, cash reconciliations, and general ledger activity reconciliations
  • Oversees unclaimed property management, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with state escheatment requirements
  • Directs the preparation and filing of premium tax filings and other state regulatory filings
  • Oversees preparation of the statutory Schedule T and supports statutory financial reporting requirements
  • Owns the department budget process, including preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis
  • Oversees coordination of enterprise expense budget, working closely with cost managers to forecast expenses and capital spend
  • Oversees enterprise general and administrative expense reporting, accruals, and variance analysis on both a Statutory and GAAP reporting basis
  • Assists with enterprise project work that overlaps with duties, including but not limited to bank setup and testing, product accounting and reporting development and testing, and administration system interface testing
  • Establishes and maintains strong internal controls over accounting operations, banking, and disbursement processes
  • Builds, develops, and manages a team of accounting professionals; sets goals, coaches performance, and supports professional growth
  • Partners with Treasury, Tax, Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, and external auditors/regulators on reviews, exams, and audit requests
  • Identifies and leads process improvement and automation initiatives across accounting operations
  • Evaluates and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company guidelines and applicable regulations
  • Provides accurate, timely reporting and analysis to senior leadership on accounting operations, cash position, and key risks
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Scope of the Role:

This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and is accountable for the strategic direction, controls, and performance of the accounting operations function. The Vice President exercises independent judgment on complex and non-routine matters, sets department priorities and policy, manages a team of accounting professionals, and represents the function in interactions with senior leadership, external auditors, and regulators.
