Job Summary

Amentum is seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President of Finance Excellence and Transformation to lead a technology centric enterprise-wide Finance transformation. Following a period of rapid growth through multiple acquisitions and integrations this position will play a critical role in unifying our finance landscape and creating a scalable, integrated future-state operating model that supports Amentum’s long-term profitable growth objectives.

Partnering with the entire CFO leadership team and key stakeholders across other enterprise functions and operations, a primary objective of this role is to design and deliver a multi-year transformation roadmap that leverages technology to strengthen our processes, systems, data, and governance.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Enterprise Finance, this position is part of Amentum’s Finance organization. We prefer a candidate local to Reston, VA but we will consider remote-telework candidates. US Citizenship is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing the Transformation Vision: Collaborate with CFO leadership team to create a compelling, well-defined finance transformation vision that aligns with the broader organizational strategy and identifies opportunities for value creation.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish a stakeholder management strategy to secure buy‑in and support from key stakeholders. This includes engaging with business leaders early in the process to foster collaboration and address concerns.

  • Change Management: Partner closely with Finance, Contracts, IT, HR, and Operations leaders on effective change management while harmonizing processes and ensuring alignment and adoption of new tools and standards.

  • Assess current-state processes, systems, legacy platforms, and organizational structures to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and integration challenges related to our M&A-driven growth.

  • Lead the end‑to‑end strategy, planning, and execution of an enterprise‑wide finance transformation program.

  • Coordinate and oversee day‑to‑day activities across project phases, including scope definition, dependency management, resource allocation, and milestone tracking.

  • Drive continuous improvement and modernization initiatives including financial system automation, data governance, and reporting enhancements.

  • Set and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure the success of transformation initiatives. Regularly review KPI’s with leadership to communicate program updates, risks, mitigation plans and need to adapt strategies if applicable.

  • Manage diverse stakeholder groups to drive initiatives impacting a variety of end‑to‑end processes including, but not limited to, Hire‑to‑Retire (H2R), Procure‑to‑Pay (P2P), Order‑to‑Cash (O2C), and Record‑to‑Report (R2R).

  • Oversee cross‑functional project teams, external consultants, and technology vendors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Data-driven and continuous learning mindset — Candidates should demonstrate curiosity, adaptability, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly, including leveraging AI to automate repetitive tasks, synthesize information, improve communication, and accelerate problem solving while maintaining human judgment and accountability.

  • Ability to evaluate and apply emerging technologies — Candidates should be comfortable assessing new AI‑enabled tools and processes, identifying practical use cases, validating outputs, understanding limitations/risk, and incorporating AI responsibly into day‑to‑day work.

  • Demonstrated AI fluency and workflow integration — Candidates should have experience using AI tools to enhance workflows, productivity, decision‑making, customer experiences, business outcomes, or operational efficiency.

  • Strong understanding of government contracting financial requirements, including FAR, CAS, indirect rate structures, and audit readiness.

  • Experience driving multi‑phase cross‑functional projects involving ERP systems, adjacent functional systems, process automation, and data/reporting modernization.

  • Strong executive communication skills and experience presenting to C‑suite stakeholders, to include storytelling capabilities to convey the transformation vision effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams, manage complex change, and influence without direct authority.

  • Demonstrated experience creating governance frameworks, KPIs, and transformation performance metrics.

  • Strong understanding of advanced digital technologies and their application in finance operations with the ability to leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Strong skills in relationship‑building and conflict resolution to engage stakeholders and address resistance effectively.

  • Ability to define strategic objectives aligned with corporate goals and lead the team towards achieving these objectives through a structured approach.

  • Demonstrated program leadership and execution to lead cross‑functional finance transformation projects spanning process standardization, automation, and data integrity.

  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on learning from past initiatives to refine future strategies is paramount for success in this role.

  • Adaptive to changes in business priorities and capable of adjusting the transformation strategy as the organization evolves.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field; master’s degree is preferred.
