Job description

Princeton Legal Search Group has been engaged on an exclusive basis by Hackensack Meridian Health to lead the search for an experienced health care regulatory and transactional lawyer to support the Hackensack Meridian Health Research Institute consisting of The Center for Discovery & Innovation and The Institute for Quality Science, and The Office of Innovation and Commercialization.

Responsibilities:

The Vice President, Associate General Counsel reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and will support HMH’s research organization that includes both translational and clinical research in an academic health setting comprising a School of Medicine, R&D facilities and 18 acute care facilities. The position will support and oversee others supporting contracting for research and clinical trials and intellectual property management and technology transfer. Responsibilities include negotiating and drafting a variety of agreements, counseling on issues impacting the research organization, creating policies, and managing direct reports.Examples of agreements that are integral to the research organization include:

  • Academic Institution to Academic Institution Research Collaboration Agreements:The Central Collaboration Agreements that include Master Clinical Trial Agreements, Subaward Agreements, Shared Resources Agreements, IP Management Agreements and IIAs (interinstitutional agreements to manage IP), Funding Agreements/Grants. Funding and staffing obligations may be part of this agreement.
  • Academic Institution to Industry Collaboration Agreements:Collaborations in specifically identified areas (disease specific, healthcare related) that include steering committees governing the collaboration and specific Project/Research SOWs in the field. Funding obligations often are included.
  • MOUs:Non-binding agreements with public entities and/or preliminary agreements to identify the intent of the parties for the engagement.
  • Commercialization Agreements with VC/Funders, Industry Partners:License Agreements, Joint Development and option to license or Joint Development and License Agreements, Term Sheets (non-binding and binding)
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a recognized university; admitted to practice law in New Jersey or the ability to register as in house counsel with the State of New Jersey if not admitted to the NJ Bar.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Operational knowledge of an academic healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and learn information technology programs necessary to the operation of the department and area of practice assigned.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, relevant state and federal healthcare law and regulations and healthcare operations.
  • Experience working in an in-house department.
  • Working with, supervising and providing guidance to paraprofessionals.
Compensation

Minimum salary of $265,283.20 annually. The final salary will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate’s qualifications, training, skills, competencies, and experience.
