Job summary

The State of Delaware seeks a Voting Machine Technician responsible for preparing voting machines for elections, testing software and hardware, and ensuring readiness of electronic poll books for deployment.

You will train and supervise seasonals, troubleshoot devices, and maintain inventory and records to support safe and accurate election operations. A valid driver's license and basic equipment knowledge are required.

Qualifications

  • Six months' experience in troubleshooting electronic equipment.
  • Six months' experience in using electronic test equipment and hand tools.
  • Six months' experience in record keeping.
  • Knowledge of operating electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of components of electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Knowledge of prioritizing, assigning and reviewing the work of others.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares voting machines for all elections, conducting testing and ensuring proper software and equipment are ready for deployment.
  • Prepares electronic poll books for all elections, testing and ensuring programming is complete and poll books are ready for deployment.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots issues with voting machines, poll books, printers and scanners.
  • Makes major repairs of machines, replacing faulty components and assemblies.
  • Replaces component parts and conducts diagnostic tests to determine repair approach.
  • Attends specialized training to acquire certification to work on equipment.
  • Trains and supervises seasonals in deployment, inspection, setup and removal of equipment.
  • Trains poll workers in using voting machines and poll books and applicable laws and procedures.
  • Provides demonstrations on voting machines and poll books to civic groups and the public.
  • Maintains inventory of election equipment, tools and parts and ensures accountability after each election.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports.

Job description

Summary Statement An incumbent in this class is responsible for conducting the maintenance, repair, testing, and preparation of voting machines and preparing electronic poll books for elections.

  • Supervises 10 to 12 seasonals
Essential Functions

  • Prepares voting machines for all elections, conducting testing of machines, and ensuring proper software and other equipment and materials are operating properly and ready for deployment.
  • Prepares electronic poll books for all elections, conducting testing, ensuring programming was completed, and poll books are operating properly and ready for deployment.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots issues with the voting machines, electronic poll books, and other equipment such as printers and scanners.
  • Makes major repairs of machines such as straightening machine frames to correct torsion damage, replacing public counters, motors and transmission assemblies.
  • Replacing component parts, conducting various diagnostic tests, and analyzing results to determine the best approach to replace a part/component.
  • Attends specialized training to acquire certification to work on equipment.
  • Trains and supervises seasonals in the deployment, inspection, set up, and removal of voting machines, other equipment and materials.
  • Trains poll workers in using voting machines and electronic poll books and applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures regarding elections.
  • Provides demonstrations on voting machines and electronic poll books to civic groups, neighborhood associations, legislators, and the public.
  • Maintains inventory of all election voting equipment, tools and parts. Ensures all equipment is accounted for after each election.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Voting Machine Technician

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Six months' experience in troubleshooting electronic equipment.
  • Six months' experience in using electronic test equipment and hand tools.
  • Six months' experience in record keeping.
  • Knowledge of operating electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of components of electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Knowledge of prioritizing, assigning and reviewing the work of others.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
