Description

Salary: $19.09 per hour

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Our Daily Bread is seeking a Volunteer Services Assistant to support the daily coordination of volunteers for Our Daily Bread meal service operations, including volunteer orientation, scheduling, job assignments, and on-site guidance during breakfast and lunch service. This position helps ensure appropriate volunteer coverage, maintains communication through the Volunteer Office, enters and updates volunteer data, assists with donations and special events, and supports a welcoming, organized, and mission-centered environment for volunteers, guests, clients, and staff.

The work schedule is 40 hours per week, 3 Weekdays (TBD upon hire) and Saturday and Sunday 9 AM - 4 PM.

Our Daily Bread Employment Center (ODBEC) provides a hot, nutritious lunch for anyone in need, every day of the year. It serves as a gateway to a wealth of other services in the facility, including legal, healthcare, employment training and opportunities with the Mayor's Office of Employment Development, Christopher Place Employment Academy, government benefits, a computer lab and a clothing closet.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Welcomes and guides new volunteers through program expectations, daily procedures, safety practices, and meal service duties.
  • Assigns volunteer roles and ensures adequate coverage to support efficient breakfast and lunch meal service operations.
  • Provides on-site guidance to volunteers during food service, clarifying duties, answering questions, and reinforcing service expectations.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local schools, colleges, businesses, and community partners to support volunteer recruitment and engagement.
  • Monitors Volunteer Office phone and email communications, responds timely to inquiries, and schedules volunteers for upcoming service opportunities.
  • Maintains accurate volunteer records by entering, updating, and organizing volunteer data in the appropriate system.
  • Assists with donation triage, coordination, and pick-up to ensure donated items are handled appropriately and routed to the correct program area.
  • Monitors and restocks meal service stations to ensure supplies are available and service areas remain organized.
  • Supports special projects and events by coordinating volunteer assistance, preparing materials, and completing assigned tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • H igh school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of related human services experience required.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrates accountability by consistently being punctual and maintaining reliable attendance.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills with a courteous and professional demeanor towards staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clarity and effectiveness in all interactions.
  • Exhibits exceptional planning and organizational skills, ensuring tasks are executed efficiently.
  • Current driver’s license with no more than three points and ability to drive a van with
  • Requires proficiency in using computer systems and software to perform job function, including but not limited to, basic Windows PC, web browsing (i.e., Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook. Knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Maintains a consistent schedule of five weekdays per week, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., including Saturday/Sunday and three weekday shifts as assigned.
  • Work assigned holidays as required to ensure consistent program coverage and uninterrupted meal service operations.
  • Flexibility may be required to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or transitioning between different work sites, which may involve walking, standing, or traveling to various locations as required by the role.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 40lbs in all directions, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning items as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Engaging in communication with others to exchange information, which may involve speaking, listening, writing, or using electronic communication methods to ensure clear and effective understanding. This includes both verbal and non-verbal interactions with colleagues, clients, or external parties.
  • Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, including tasks such as typing, data entry, or handling small objects. These repetitive activities may occur throughout the workday and require attention to ergonomics to ensure comfort and minimize strain.
  • Hearing and vision abilities, with or without correction, sufficient to drive safely and effectively observe and communicate with others.
  • Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede drivers’ ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
