POSITION SUMMARY
The Volunteer Engagement Manager provides strategic leadership forFamilyWorks’ volunteer program, ensuring volunteer engagement alignswith organizational priorities, program needs, and the agency’s mission.This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuouslyimproving systems for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, placement,supervision, and retention across FamilyWorks programs.
The Manager is a member of the Program Department Leadership Team andwill partner with program staff to strengthen the integration ofvolunteers into service delivery while cultivating a welcoming,inclusive, and high-impact volunteer experience. Through data-informeddecision-making, cross-department collaboration, and communitypartnership, this role ensures that volunteers are effectively mobilizedto support participants, staff, and agency outcomes articulated in theFamilyWorks’ 2024-2026 strategic plan.
The Manager currently provides direct management and supervision toone (1) part-time Senior Volunteer Coordinator. FamilyWorks relies onvolunteers to support our mission. In 2025, 450 individuals volunteeredfor 12,307 hours. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will havemanager-on-duty responsibilities, which are scheduled in coordinationwith the management team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Volunteer Program Strategy and Leadership
- Provide strategic oversight of FamilyWorks’ volunteer engagementprogram (including individual and corporate volunteerism, corporatealignment with agency goals, equity commitments, and programmatic needs.
- Develop,implement, and regularly assess volunteer engagement strategies,policies, and procedures to improve effectiveness, consistency, andimpact.
- Serve as the organizational subject-matter expert on volunteer engagement best practices, trends, and compliance requirements.
Volunteer Recruitment, Engagement and Retention
- Lead agency-wide volunteer recruitment efforts, includingrepresenting FamilyWorks through outreach, partnerships, and communityengagement strategies.
- Oversee volunteer onboarding,orientation, and training processes to ensure clarity of expectations,safety, and mission alignment.
- Oversee volunteer recognition and appreciation strategies that support retention, morale, and long-term engagement.
Volunteer Supervision and Coordination
- Oversee volunteer placement and scheduling systems to ensureappropriate coverage and effective use of volunteer capacity acrossprograms.
- Together with the Sr. Volunteer Coordinator, provideguidance, and support to volunteers, addressing performance concerns,conflicts, or special circumstances with professionalism and empathy.
- Partnerclosely with the Program Leadership Team to assess volunteer needs,develop volunteer roles, and ensure volunteers are effectivelyintegrated into service delivery.
Corporate Volunteer Engagement and Partnerships
- Cultivate and manage relationships with corporate partners,serving as the primary point of contact for planning, communication, andfollow-up.
- Collaborate with Programs and Development teams toalign corporate volunteer engagement with fundraising, sponsorship, andstewardship strategies.
- Design and oversee scalable, high-impactcorporate volunteer opportunities, including one-time service events,skills-based volunteering, and ongoing group engagements.
Data, Reporting, and Systems Management
- Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of volunteer records, including hours, compliance documentation, and demographic data.
- Produceregular reports and analysis on volunteer engagement metrics to supportprogram planning, evaluation, and funder reporting.
- Strengthen systems for volunteer tracking and communication, leveraging technology to improve efficiency and accessibility.
Staff Supervision and Leadership
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance managementfor a part-time Sr. Volunteer Coordinator, including goal-setting,workload prioritization, and ongoing professional development.
- Delegateoperational responsibilities appropriately while ensuringaccountability, consistency, and alignment with volunteer engagementstrategies and organizational standards.

- Willingness to proactively seek supervisory input, resources, and information needed to accomplish the job.
- Must have access to reliable transportation throughout North Seattle.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Professional degree required (or equivalent life experience)with 3 to 5 years of related experience in social work or nonprofitprogram management, or a combination of education and experience thatdemonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Demonstratedsupervisory experience that reflects progressive responsibilities inhiring, training, performance management, conflict resolution anddisciplinary counseling.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Russian preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications, database entry, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams
- Must be able to pass background check
