Job summary

Tri-State Food Bank seeks a Volunteer Leader to coordinate, train, and supervise volunteers, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with TSFB standards and goals. This role collaborates with warehouse and program staff to prepare projects, maintain inventory, and support daily operations.

The position serves as a welcoming TSFB representative, promoting the mission and ensuring volunteers have resources and direction to succeed. Evening/weekend events may be required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary

The Volunteer Leader coordinates, trains, and supervises volunteers to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to Tri-State Food Bank (TSFB’s) standards, guidelines, and goals. This position works closely with warehouse and program staff to prepare projects, maintain inventory, support daily operations, and ensure volunteers have the resources and direction needed to be successful. The Volunteer Leader also serves as a positive representative of Tri-State Food Bank by creating a welcoming volunteer experience and promoting TSFB’s mission and impact.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Train and supervise volunteers while working alongside them.
• Establish positive public relations to promote Tri-State Food Bank.
• Ability to give verbal presentations, facilitate group activities, and give facility tours.
• Inspect work completed by volunteers to assure quality and adherence to guidelines.
• Manage multiple programs/projects to ensure proper inventory is available in accordance with the scheduled timeline.
• Assist in developing the monthly workload and identifying volunteer support needed to completeprogram goals.
• Assist in opening and closing warehouses each day.
• Greet the volunteers at the beginning of each shift, 8am and 1pm to assign duties.
• Work closely with the Warehouse Supervisor, Food Sourcing Manager, Inventory Control Specialist, Development team, Front Office Coordinator and the Warehouse Team Members.
• Sort food and become proficient in Feeding America salvage and AIB guidelines.
• Obtain the appropriate required Food Safety Certification. This will be provided by Tri-State Food Bank.
• Become familiar with good warehousing practices as outlined in the Feeding America manual.
• Keep volunteer center cleaned and organized according to the QAM guidelines.
• Prepare/Stock the production line to ensure projects are ready for the volunteers to begin as they arrive.
• Ensure paperwork for BackPack program, agencies orders, transfers, etc. are complete and accurate.
• Ensure first in/first out (FIFO) procedures are used.
• Operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, shrink wrapping machine, and other warehouse equipment.
• Assist in keeping warehouse and grounds clean and neat.
• Complete physical inventory counts as needed and work closely with the Inventory Control Specialist.
• Ensure proper inventory levels are on hand by working with the Food Sourcing Manager.
• Assist with maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and warehouse supplies.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours as needed for events.
• Commit to the mission and goals of Tri-State Food Bank.
• Assist the Warehouse Supervisor with tasks as requested.
• Perform other warehouse/volunteer related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, COO, or CEO.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Possess strong math skills
• Possess strong communication skills and the ability to speak clearly and give direction to a large group of volunteers
• Be proficient in operating forklifts, electric pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment
• Must have or receive forklift certification within 60 days from date of employment. Training will be provided.
• Be able to lift 50 pounds
• Have a valid driver’s license and carry insurance on personal vehicles and be insurable by Tri-State Food Bank
• Be of good character, have a strong work ethic, and be a self-starter
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission of Tri-State Food Bank
• Be able to take direction from management and give direction to volunteers, and comfortable working with diverse groups of people. Training and supervisory experience preferred
