Job summary

Caring Hospice Services is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for administrative tasks, direct patient care, or pet therapy within our hospice program.

You will work with the care team to place volunteers appropriately, develop care plans, track hours and cost savings, and coordinate an annual recognition event, while aligning with Medicare COP requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in program development, management and clinical supervision preferred.
  • Ability to relate to terminally ill patients/families and their problems.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, telephone, documentation and communication skills.
  • Must possess the disposition and personality to work harmoniously with a wide variety of people and all levels of staff and interact professionally as a member of a multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities

  • Recruit volunteers to perform administrative, direct patient care or pet therapy.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing training and supervision of volunteers.
  • Review appropriateness of volunteer involvement upon referral from nursing/social work personnel and place volunteers appropriately.
  • With Hospice Team, supervise and serve as a resource and liaison for volunteers.
  • Complete IDG care plans accurately and timely.
  • Prepare reports indicating percentage of volunteer hours and cost saving to hospice.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer recruitment activity; arrange training for new volunteers.
  • Coordinate an annual volunteer recognition event.
  • Responsible for volunteer retention via support groups, calls, flyers, and meetings.
