Position Duties

Volunteer Activities Coordinator III is responsible for developing and planning a comprehensive volunteer services program in a State facility. The incumbent directs and supervises volunteer activities and educates the community about the need for volunteers.

  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, interns, staff, and volunteer visitors, including background checks, interviews, paperwork, and orientation.
  • Recruit and coordinate student interns, maintaining contact with agencies and college liaisons.
  • Recommend amendments to volunteer directives and develop volunteer handouts.
  • Serve as point of contact for volunteer complaints, issues, and inquiries.
  • Handle special administrative assignments requiring knowledge of regulations, policies, and program goals.
  • Serve on committees to design evaluative tools, review policies, and develop initiatives.
  • Prepare periodic performance evaluations and reports on volunteer programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Seven years of experience in planning, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility or community‑based program.
  • Optionally, a Bachelor’s degree with 30 credit hours in social sciences, journalism, public relations, or a related field plus three years of experience. Alternatively, graduate‑level education with 30 credit hours per year for up to six years of required experience may substitute for work experience.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland if required for assigned duties.
  • Completed training and current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation if required.
Special Requirements
  • Provide a telephone number for contact by the facility.
Selection Process

Information demonstrating qualifications must be submitted by the closing date. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible employment list for at least one year.

Examination Process

The assessment may include a rating of education, training, and experience related to the position’s requirements.
