Job summary

The YMCA of Western North Carolina is seeking an Entry level Sports Instructor for a part-time hourly role in Buncombe County, Asheville, NC. The position supports a recreational league or clinic, teaching fundamentals of the assigned sport and ensuring participant safety.

You will follow YMCA policies, engage with members, and promote the organization’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while working evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 14 years of age or older.
• Ability to work with and supervise peers, motivate youth, and maintain a safe environment.
• General understanding of sports, rules of the game, and interest in working with sporting leagues.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing and organizing a recreational league or clinic for the season.
• Deliver a quality program where participants can learn the fundamentals of the sport.
• Enforce YMCA policies and procedures and ensure participants’ safety.
• Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of WNC.

Sports Instructors may be required to work at different locations based on operational needs.

$200 END-OF-SEASON BONUS!

Earn $200 by remaining thru the end of the season.

Must work all scheduled game days OR work at least 16 practice nights.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Sports Instructor, you will assist in implementing and organizing a recreational league or clinic for the upcoming season. You will strive to deliver a quality program where participants can learn the fundamentals of the assigned sport.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Knows and understands all YMCA policies and procedures and ensures that all these procedures are always consistently enforced.
• Assists as needed in emergency situations and as outlined in emergency procedures.
• Continuously exhibits honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, reliability, flexibility, maturity, and good decision-making skills.
• Engages with members, participants, co-workers, directors, and volunteers positively and professionally.
• Ensures participants’ safety.
• Implement programs for recreational league and clinic play.
• Effectively leads a program utilizing training curriculums.
• Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Promotes and represents the mission and core values of the YMCA of WNC.
• Displays a professional, courteous, and tactful demeanor at all times.
• Always strive to display a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB

• Must be able to clearly see, hear, and speak.
• Must be able to bend, stand, stoop, and walk for extended periods of time throughout the facility.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Must be able to comprehend and communicate written and verbal instructions
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
