Title: High School and Middle School Assistant Coach

Qualifications
- Valid National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) approved certificates in Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion in Sports, First Aid, Health & Safety.
- Familiar with Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) organization, bylaws, policies, procedures and other high school level requirements.
- Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card within 45 days of employment.
- For cheer/spiritline assistant coach qualifications: valid AACCA certification and passing score of ≥75% on NFHS Cheer Safety Exam.
Job Goals
The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach, instructs athletes in fundamentals, strategy, and physical training, and models behavior that promotes character development, self‑discipline, confidence, and pride. The Assistant Coach maintains professional growth through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
Performance Responsibilities
- Comply with all HIPAA and FERPA confidentiality requirements.
- Develop positive relations with students, parents, staff, media, boosters, officials, players, other coaches, and the public.
- Serve as a positive role model for students and the community.
- Demonstrate knowledge of coaching theories, strategies, and techniques and effectively implement them with athletes of varying abilities and backgrounds.
- Instill commitment, discipline, sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director/Coordinator.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
Knowledge of: AIA rules and policies, athletic department handbook, effective coaching theories, strategies, and techniques, federal and state laws governing education and sports.
Skills and abilities:
- Motivate athletes and sustain their interests while excelling academically.
- Create beneficial relationships and communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, students, vendors, coaches, and community members.
- Apply leadership techniques.
- Implement educational policies and procedures.
- Supervise and evaluate coaching staff.
- Analyze and problem‑solve.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Regularly required to talk or listen.
- Frequently required to stand for long periods and walk long distances.
- Occasionally required to sit, use hands to touch or feel, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjust.
Reports To
Head Coach and/or Athletic Director/Coordinator.
Evaluation
Performance evaluated annually by Head Coach and/or Athletic Director/Coordinator per Governing Board policy.
Terms of Employment
Specific season: Fall/Winter/Spring.
Salary
Annual stipend set per Athletics Salary Schedule approved by Governing Board.
FLSA Status
Non‑Exempt

Salary: $1,000 stipend
