Job summary

Lake Havasu High School is seeking an Assistant Coach to support the head coach and athletic department in player development, safety, and teamwork.

The role emphasizes compliance with district and state regulations, supervision of equipment and facilities, and collaboration with staff and students. Candidates must meet coaching/playing experience, certifications, and background checks within 45 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Previous successful coaching or playing experience or knowledge in the assigned sport
• Must have knowledge of the background in the assigned sport
• Knowledge of basic rules of the activity and specific safety concerns
• Ability to work effectively with other coaches, staff and students
• IVP fingerprint clearance card through AZ Department of Public Safety
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• All assistant coaches, whether paid or volunteer must complete the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course, or approved equivalent, within 45 days from date of hire; also NFHS online education course on Concussion in Sports
• Hold a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate, Arizona Coaching Certificate, or NFHS Level I Certification within 45 days from date of hire (Fundamentals of Coaching; sport-specific course)

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of existing school district, state, and conference regulations and ability to carry them out
• Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and school community
• Understand the proper administrative line of command and refer requests through proper channels
• Monitor student athletes’ academic progress through Athletic Office reports
• Complete and submit injury reports to the Athletic Office
• Accountable for all equipment and inventory management with the head coach
• Examine locker rooms for cleanliness and damage before/after practices and games
• Supervise the locker room and team areas
• Must be present until the last student athlete leaves
• Coordinate practice sites and times with the Athletic Office
• Assist in preparation and cleanup of playing areas
• Supervise practices, games, and team trips; safeguard each participant
• Assist the head coach in responsibilities
• Attend clinics to improve skills
• Submit team rosters to Athletic Office before first game
• Submit reports to the Athletic Office
• Carry emergency cards for all players at practices and games
• Supervise athletes and teams; assume supervisory control when needed
