Job summary

Malcolm X College is seeking Vocational Lecturers to teach Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Preceptor. The ideal candidate will use effective teaching strategies to engage diverse students and promote critical thinking.

The EMS program trains from EMR basics to paramedic levels, blending classroom, lab, and field experiences to prepare graduates for rapid decision-making in patient care. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

  • Must hold paramedic licensure by IDPH or higher with paramedic/EMT experience.
  • Lead Instructor certificate by IDPH or NAEMSE preferred.
  • Experience with online teaching (Zoom) and LMS platforms is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with diverse students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction on EMS Preceptor and adapt teaching methods.
  • Process student records per Malcolm X College guidelines.
  • Plan activities for observation, questioning, and investigation.
  • Monitor student performance and suggest improvement.
  • Be prepared to teach in-person.
  • Inspire and empower students to succeed through teaching excellence.
  • Maintain office hours for advising and coaching; revise courses as needed.
  • Post syllabi and grades; proctor hands-on labs.

VOCATIONAL LECTURER - EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS)PRECEPTOR
MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is currently seeking Vocational Lecturersto teach Emergency Medical Services (EMS) . If you havepassion for teaching and learning and are committed to the missionof the community college, consider joining our team. The idealcandidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom bydeveloping and using effective teaching strategies that meetstudents’ diverse needs and engage the students in criticalthinking and problem-solving.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program provides students withthe knowledge and skill to recognize symptoms of illness andinjury. The training can range from the basics taught at the firstresponder level (EMR) to the highly skilled level of the paramedic.Courses blend experience in the classroom, laboratory and fieldpreparing professionals to make quick, emergent decisions inpatient management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide instruction on EMS Preceptor and use effective teachingmethods. Adapt teaching methods as needed.
  • Process students’ records per Malcolm X Collegeguidelines.
  • Plan and conduct activities that provide students withopportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Monitor students' performance to make suggestions forimprovement and ensure that they satisfy course standards, trainingrequirements, and objectives.
  • Be prepared to teach this course in-person.
  • Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, commitment tointegrating new technologies in the learning process and theability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
  • Maintain office hours for advising, mentoring and coachingstudents. Development and revision of courses and instructionalmaterials as necessary.
  • Post syllabi and grades
  • Proctor students in a hands-on lab setting
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be licensed at the paramedic level by Illinois Departmentof Public Health or be licensed at a higher level of practice withParamedic or EMT experience
  • Lead instructors must hold a Lead Instructor certificate byIDPH or NAEMSE certification
  • Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similarLearning Management System, preferred
  • Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or onlineteaching certification is strongly preferred
  • Scholarship work, publications, committee work, and otherrelevant work is highly considered
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability tocommunicate with diverse group of staff and students, required
  • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population isdesired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of thecommunity college
