Job summary

The South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department is seeking a vocational counselor to provide job development, placement and supported employment services to consumers referred from the IPS program. You will plan, guide and train clients toward successful vocational outcomes, while maintaining weekly case notes and adapting to diverse work environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• High school diploma with experience may substitute for the degree.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Must be able to travel throughout the day to assist consumers at work.
• Must be able to work in varied environments and on a flex schedule to meet consumers' needs.
• Knowledge and skill in conducting needs assessments.
• Knowledge of fact gathering methods and interviewing techniques.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Knowledge of principles of behavior adjustment techniques.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Under the guidance of a VR Counselor, provide job development, placement and supported employment services for consumers referred from IPS.
• Provide planning and guidance toward successful vocational outcomes.
• Provide on-the-job training to supported employment consumers.
• Maintain case notes weekly.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
