The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Vizient Operational Database (ODB) Specialist to join the Finance team and coordinate the collection, validation, analysis, and quarterly submission of ODB data to Vizient.

This role collaborates with stakeholders across Finance, Enterprise Analytics, departmental leadership, and Vizient to ensure accurate and timely reporting, while serving as the primary point of contact for ODB-related activities and benchmark reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and experience.
  • 3 years of accounting, auditing, and/or financial analysis experience.
  • Experience coordinating preparation and use of benchmark data.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning and desire to take on tough and challenging projects.
  • Strong time management and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to perform complex financial analyses.
  • Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience in health care finance or analytics; academic setting preferred.
  • Ability to translate data into insights through storytelling and visualization.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, Power BI, and other data software.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement and drive solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and complex situations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate UI Health Care's quarterly ODB data submission to Vizient with internal stakeholders, Finance, Enterprise Analytics, and Vizient representatives.
  • Manage the quarterly ODB submission process including data collection, entry, validation, reconciliation, finalization, and submission via Vizient’s Data Collection Module.
  • Perform data quality reviews and audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and proper interpretation of data and reports.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ODB communications and initiatives involving internal stakeholders and Vizient partners.
  • Coordinate data gathering with Enterprise Analytics and data partners to support accurate, timely ODB reporting.
  • Communicate the impact of service changes, volumes, staffing, revenues, expenses, org structure, and general ledger activity on ODB reporting and benchmarking.
  • Coordinate annual review and completion of Vizient ODB questionnaires and documentation.
  • Maintain Vizient ODB user access and accounts according to processes.
  • Coordinate ODB education and training opportunities for stakeholders and promote effective use of ODB reporting by partners.
  • Develop and maintain quarterly KPI dashboards to communicate performance, benchmarks, trends, and material changes to leadership.
  • Partner with leaders to interpret benchmark data, identify improvement opportunities, and support data-driven investments and cost management.
  • Collaborate with Operating Budget, Decision Support, and Finance teams to identify efficiency opportunities and monitor performance after improvements.
  • Translate complex Vizient results into actionable insights for stakeholders.
