Job description

Philadelphia Federal Teachers Union (PFT) represented position. The salary ranges from $55,771 to $97,852, depending on level of education and years of experience. Salary quoted in offer letter will be based on credentials and experience verification. This is non‑negotiable.

All visual and/or performing arts applicants must pass a secondary screen conducted by the District's Office of Arts & Creative Learning to be eligible for hire.

Job Summary

A teacher in the School District of Philadelphia plans and teaches their subject area following the scope and sequence for all courses; provides instruction to students in a variety of planned courses; incorporates real‑life applications and simulations; uses technology and software in lesson development; and employs formal and informal assessments.

Essential Functions
  • Assesses student skill level and aligns classroom goals and activities to state and local standards.
  • Provides instruction in the respective subject area, emphasizing real‑life applications, simulations, and inquiry techniques.
  • Offers technical expertise in tools, materials, processes, and software applications.
  • Creates learning experiences that demonstrate comprehension and the use of technology.
  • Encourages students to use learned skills for inquiry‑based learning.
  • Establishes a classroom environment with subject‑related materials that address student needs and interests.
  • Collaborates with staff across disciplines to integrate subject‑specific skills.
  • Keeps abreast of developments and improvements in education affecting the instructional program.
  • Attends faculty meetings to discuss school problems and teaching methods.
  • Maintains classroom discipline and required records.
Minimum Requirements
  • For visual art applicants: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Arts, Arts Education, or a related field.
  • For performing art applicants: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music, Music Education, Dance, or a related field.
Certificates / Licenses
  • Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in the respective grade level and endorsements in the respective subject area, or
  • Meet requirements to obtain an emergency permit and ability to consistently meet emergency permit requirements until instructional certification can be issued.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of grade‑level education; subject‑specific expertise; content, materials, methodologies, and practices used in education; critical‑thinking and problem‑solving techniques; child growth and development principles; state standards and performance levels; technological innovations and relevant software; authentic performance assessment principles.

Demonstrated ability to assess student needs, design differentiated instruction, use simulations and technology, facilitate inquiry‑based learning, communicate effectively in oral and written forms, and establish and maintain relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, parents, and students.
