Overview
We're looking for a Visual Creative Lead to translate our creative strategy into a clear, elevated, and consistent visual language across video and photography.
Working closely with our Creative Operations Lead, this role takes campaign objectives, brand strategy, messaging, and creative concepts and determines how those ideas should look and feel on screen and in photos. The Visual Creative Lead serves as the primary creative partner for our photographers, videographers, and video editors, providing visual direction before production, creative guidance during execution, and first-round visual review during post-production.
This is a hands-on creative leadership and visual direction role; this person is expected to shoot and edit, select high-priority or complex projects themselves, not only plan and review the work of others.
Responsibilities
Visual Direction
- Translate creative briefs, campaign strategies, and brand objectives into visual concepts for photography and video.
- Develop the visual language for campaigns and content series — composition, lighting, camera movement, color/tone, editing style and pacing, locations, talent presentation, and overall look and feel.
- Maintain visual consistency across photography and video so content feels cohesive and recognizable to each brand.
- Partner with the Creative Operations Lead during campaign and content development to determine how strategic concepts should be visually executed.
- Create and/or guide mood boards, storyboards, creative treatments, shot lists, and visual production guides.
- For higher-production campaigns, turn creative strategy into a visual blueprint that photographers, videographers, editors, and talent can execute against.
Photography Direction
- Provide visual direction for photography productions: composition, lighting, framing, environments, talent positioning, and overall aesthetic.
- Personally shoot select high-priority, complex, or brand-defining photo productions.
- Review photo selects and give feedback on imagery, crops, color treatment, retouching, and visual consistency.
Video Direction
- Provide creative direction to videographers and editors on storytelling, shot selection, pacing, framing, camera movement, graphics, music, transitions, color, and overall visual quality.
- Develop storyboards and visual treatments for higher-production video concepts.
- Personally shoot and/or edit select high-priority, complex, or brand-defining video projects.
Creative Review & Quality Control
- Serve as the first visual review point for photography and video work, giving clear, actionable feedback before work reaches the Creative Operations Lead.
- Ensure work meets established visual standards and aligns with approved creative direction.
- Help build the team's creative judgment over time by explaining the reasoning behind feedback, not just requesting revisions.
- Hands-on shooting and/or editing skills; comfortable stepping in to shoot or cut high-priority work personally, not only directing others.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Receive and interpret strategy from the Social Media team and the Producer & Marketing Content Strategist, translating it into visual direction for the production team.
- Coordinate with the Creative Operations Lead to keep creative feedback and production scheduling in sync.
Qualifications
- Strong portfolio demonstrating visual storytelling ability across photography and video.
- Experience giving clear, constructive creative feedback to photographers, videographers, and editors.
- Comfortable translating brand strategy and campaign briefs into visual concepts, mood boards, storyboards, and shot lists.
- Working knowledge of photography and video production (lighting, composition, camera movement, color, pacing).
- Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and/or After Effects, and photo tools such as Lightroom or Photoshop.
Ideal Candidate
- Has a strong, distinctive visual point of view and enjoys shaping how content looks and feels.
- Think(s) visually at a strategic level, translating a brand's story into shots, boards, and references others can execute against.
