Job Summary

The Vistra High Voltage Transformer and Breaker Engineer provides subject matter expertise for the high voltage equipment in the Vistra Generation fleet. The position primarily supports the Generator Step Up (GSU), Unit Auxiliary, Station Service, Reserve, and other high voltage transformers along with generator and high voltage circuit breakers. The engineer conducts engineering analysis and market‑driven options for issues throughout the asset life cycle, participates in industry user groups, and supports short‑ and long‑range budget planning. The role requires effective communication at all levels of the organization and with external resources.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide subject‑matter expertise for GSU, Unit Auxiliary, Station Service, Reserve, and other high‑voltage transformers.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise for generator and high‑voltage circuit breakers.
• Maintain Vistra’s asset preservation program to support long‑term maintenance and reliability of high‑voltage equipment.
• Design and develop test procedures for high‑voltage equipment to ensure long‑term reliability, performance, and safety.
• Oversee testing processes to meet Vistra standards and procedures.
• Review chemical, mechanical, and electrical test data to determine equipment health and recommend corrective actions.
• Create procurement specifications for transformers, breakers, and other high‑voltage electrical equipment.
• Review high‑voltage equipment technical data and drawings, and factory test reports.
• Mentor and support less experienced plant engineers on high‑voltage equipment maintenance and technical support.
• Coordinate with in‑house engineering, equipment specialists, and operation staff to ensure consistent, practical, and effective engineering solutions.
• Represent Engineering Services on corporate, technical, and user‑group committees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

• 5+ years relevant experience in high‑voltage transformer or breaker design, testing, or maintenance.
• Understanding of chemical and electrical tests and ability to assess condition based on test results.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, creative problem solving, and team building.
• High level of expertise in MS Office suite.
• Bachelor of Science in an accredited Electrical Engineering program.
• Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications applicable to the above skills.
• Demonstrated aptitude consistent with the job’s key accountabilities.
