Job summary

Miami University seeks a Visiting Faculty member in Music to teach Sound Design for live and recorded applications in Spring 2027. The instructor will blend artistic vision with hands‑on industry practice, guiding students through sound reinforcement, recording, editing, mixing, and the integration of sound technologies in performances and multimedia projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Technology, Audio Production, Sound Design, Recording Arts, or related field or equivalent professional experience.
Teaching experience at college level or mentoring students is a plus.
Professional experience in both live sound production and studio recording.
Familiarity with Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, or comparable platforms.
Experience with sound design for theater, opera, film, multimedia, or interdisciplinary performance.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate students the fundamentals of sound design for live and recorded applications.
Provide hands‑on instruction in microphone placement, signal flow, and mixing consoles.
Introduce students to DAWs, multitrack recording, editing, mixing, and basic mastering.
Develop projects involving live sound reinforcement, studio recording, and multimedia sound design.
Instruct on setup, operation, and troubleshooting of professional audio equipment.
Integrate creative sound design with technical training and collaborative production.
Assess student progress through assignments and demonstrations of technical proficiency.
Promote safe, professional practices in recording studios and live environments.
