Description

Liberal Studies at New York University invites applications for a one year Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor position to begin September 1, 2027, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

The Liberal Studies Core is a dynamic liberal arts curriculum that provides a global and interdisciplinary foundation for nearly 100 NYU majors. The Global Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts is an innovative global studies major grounded in the spatial, conceptual, and temporal understandings of a highly interconnected world, with a program of study that is distinguished by experiential learning, study away, and independent research focused in an interdisciplinary concentration. In both the LS Core and the GLS major, small, seminar-style classes and close faculty student interaction provide students with the benefits of a liberal arts college within a large urban research university. We are especially interested in hiring qualified candidates who can contribute their research, teaching and service to the intellectual diversity and excellence of Liberal Studies and NYU.

We seek applicants for the following position:

ARTS & CULTURES

PhD in the humanities, broadly conceived (Classics, Ancient World Studies, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Egyptology, Indian Ocean or East Asian Studies with specialization in the ancient world, Ancient Art History and Archaeology with literature teaching experience, or other fields related to the study of the ancient and premodern worlds). Preferred candidates will have a specialization in the Ancient World who can also teach the Global Middle Ages and Renaissance. The candidate must be able to teach the first two courses in the Liberal Studies Arts and Cultures Core sequence: "Arts and Cultures across Antiquity" & "Arts and Cultures towards the Crossroads". This includes the ability to teach both ancient literature from a diverse set of cultures and their visual and material cultural production. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate interdisciplinary and cross-cultural competency.

Visiting Clinical Faculty teach three classes per semester, advise undergraduates, and may optionally contribute service to Liberal Studies and to the University.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $75,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Liberal Studies sees equity and inclusion and belonging as essential to education and the development of leadership in a globally interconnected world. These values inform LS as a collegial and respectful environment for students, faculty, and staff—with particular attention to improving the student experience.
