Job summary

Washtenaw Intermediate School District seeks a Teacher Consultant for students with visual impairments in Washtenaw County. You will work with classroom staff, related services staff, and parents to implement programming and supports in inclusive educational settings.

Your role emphasizes equity, cultural proficiency, and collaboration with district teams to align services with Individualized Education Programs and district equity policy, including in virtual settings when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of visual impairments and its impact on learning.
• Experience with computer instruction and technology.
• Experience with consulting in a general education setting.
• Experience with and knowledge of curriculum adaptations.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
• Teaches Braille to students and staff.
• Assists teachers with understanding the nature of a child’s visual impairment.
• Provides consultation and demonstrates teaching techniques with instructional teams for educating and supporting students with visual impairments.
• Performs informal and formal assessments related to disability, when appropriate.

Master’s degree with VI endorsement

8 weeks directed student teaching in VI

3 years teaching experience in special ed
